“Hey KZ!” Mikey replied. “You signing up for baseball this year?”
“Yeah, are you?”
“Of course I am! Like I’d miss the chance to show you up.”
As the bus stopped, all the kids got up and walked to the front of the bus. The bus driver
opened the doors and all the students began to run and push their way out of the bus, and into the
school building.
“Thanks Charlie!” KZ and Mikey yelled to the bus driver as they made their way
outside.”
KZ and Mikey spent all day staring at the clock  waiting for the last bell to sound,
signaling that it was time to go home. Finally, the final bell rang, Mikey and KZ ran outside to
the baseball fields, eager to get there before the other students who were signing up.
“Whew! Yes! We got here first!” KZ yelled, out of breath, when they reached the field.
“For the first time in forever!” Mikey sang, mimicking the movie Frozen.
“Oh my gosh Mikey. Really? That song again? It’s so girly.” said one of the other
students as he walked up behind them.
“I like Frozen. It’s my favorite movie.” replied Mikey quietly and shyly.
“Hey, stop making fun of him!” Yelled KZ. “He’s my best friend.”
“I still don’t get why your friends with this wuss!” the student said as he shoved KZ.
“Hey!” The coach yelled as he reached the field. “Danny, leave the eighth graders alone.”
“Sorry Mr. Exodus.” Danny said.
“Now kids! Today, we are going to do a few practices: Batting, catching, and pitching.”
Mr. Ex yelled. “These practices are going to help the rest of the team and I, decide what position
you will be in the games this season.”
KZ raised his hand.
“Yes KZ?”
“Will we get to pick which positions we tryout for?”
“That is a good question Mr. Bennekker. Yes, I will give you a chance to tell choose what
you want to tryout for, but you may be placed in a different position based on your skills.” Mr.
Ex said, as he skimmed over the faces of the new kids.
