After practice, Joe came by to pick up KZ and Mikey.
“How’d it go?” Asked Joe.
“Not well. I hate high schoolers!” Mikey answered.
“They kept picking on us and making fun of our batting stances.” KZ explained. “I got
mad and my temper got the best of me. I yelled at them to shut up, and when they didn’t, I swung
my bat a little too hard and ended up hitting one of them in the face. He was sent to the hospital
an hour ago with a broken nose.”
“Yeah, Mr. Ex said that he should just kick KZ out of practice, but the high schooler had
it coming for making fun of us, so we made the team. Mr. Ex said that as long as I keep KZ in
line, and keep him away from fights, we could be on the team!”
As Joe and Mikey talked, KZ’s mind began to drift. He looked out the car window.
“What’s that?” KZ asked aloud to himself.
“What’s what?” replied Joe.
“Oh nothing, I just could have sworn that I saw someone I knew. I must have imagined
it.” Said KZ.
