Violet's Point of View
After speaking for a while, Ashton and I headed back inside to find everyone waiting for us in the living room. Sidney was laying her head on Calum's lap, and my parents were on different sides of the room. Luke and Myra were having a light conversation and were the first to realize we had arrived.
"Is everything okay?" Myra asked while standing up.
I nod and Sidney runs into my arms. Out of the corner of my eye I see Ashton tense up and pretend to pay attention to something else.
"Now that everything is okay, I say we have dinner." Andy said patiently.
We all go back to our previous seating arrangements, but this time Ashton is sitting right across from me. I try not to make eye contact with him, and continue to quietly eat my food.
"So Calum, how's working with Violet going?" Luke asks eagerly.
"Oh it's going well, we actually have a meeting with Clifford Enterprise, on Wednesday." He replies.
He glances at me for a few moments before smiling and looking back down at his food. I smile back at him before looking over to Ashton who glares at us both before focusing on his food.
"So Sidney, I hear your team is going to their championship. Are you excited?" Andy asks.
"Oh I'm very excited, we've been preparing for this the entire time. Uncle Calum's been helping me with my penalty kicks," She replies and smiles at Calum.
"You know Sidney, I could always help you with your penalty kicks." Ashton mutters.
"Well if you actually show up to at least one game, I'll consider it. But I think I'll stick with Uncle Calum." She snaps.
Luke begins coughing instantly after choking on his steak. My father begins smacking and rubbing his back. I look back up at Ashton to see him sadly nod and continue eating.
"So Calum," I instantly cringe at my mother's words, "How's Charlotte?" She asks in a fake sweet tone.
"She's fine Mrs. Hemmings," Calum says slowly.
"I'm guessing your excited for your new addition to the family?"
"Yeah--sure,"
"What do you mean sure?"
"I mean, that child isn't even mine and neither Paige and Sage." He snaps.
I grab his free hand and squeeze it soothingly to somewhat calm him down. His tense shoulders simmer down, but his hard glare doesn't.
My mother seems taken back at his words and just nods before taking a sip of her wine.
This is literally the most awkward family dinner I've ever been to. I mean this definitely tops the dinner I had with Ashton's family and mine. Let's just say my mom, and Ashton's mom don't really see eye to eye.
We all finished dinner without speaking again which was freaking terrible. Ashton continued to eat without even looking up.
Sidney and Brooklyn helped my mother with the dishes while Calum and I stayed in the living room with the others.
"Violet may I speak to you for a moment please?" Ashton asked quietly.
I nodded slowly and followed him back outside, but this time on the front porch. His back was to me for a few moments before he faced me with light tears in his eyes.
"Violet oh my god, am I really that bad of a father? I want her to love me Vi, not hate me! I'll show up to her games, drop her off to school, spend time with her, anything! I just don't want her to hate me Vi." He croaked before sobbing into my shoulder.
What the heck was I supposed to do? I mean, was I meant to comfort him or push him away and snap at him? The anger that I felt towards him was slipping away, shit.
I awkwardly patted his back, as he continued crying.
"Dad?"
We let go instantly, and turned to face Sidney who's facial expression was unreadable.
"I don't hate you, I just hate how you never want to spend time with me. Or show up to my games like you promised." She spoke with her head down.
"Sidney, I am so sorry. So, so sorry sweetheart. I didn't mean to make you feel this way, I love you okay? I promise I'll spend time with you and all that jazz,"
She looked at me as to ask if she was meant to forgive him. I nodded, regardless of the fact that my subconscious told me to smack Ashton.
She gave him the biggest hug and began laughing. He kissed her forehead and picked her up.
"So does this mean you guys will be together again?"
My eyes widened and Ashton gave us each other a look.
"Look Sid, I love your mom, but just not in the way you may think. We're good friends, and I think she has her eyes on a certain CEO already," He winked at her.
She giggled in response and I just glared at him.
We heard a shriek and loud crash, like something had broke. We ran into the kitchen,
To find my mom on the floor and Andy trying to get her to stand up.
"I can't feel my legs!" She cried.
