Riley likes Val!?

It's the new semester of Riley's first year of high school and Riley couldn't be more excited. Anxiety popped out from her little corner and proclaimed "Time to break out our daily checklist!" As soon as she said this, Riley jumped out of bed and began getting ready for her first week back at school. Riley bought new clothes for this very day last weekend, and she felt as cool as ever! A blue new sweater! A t-shirt of her favorite hockey team! A graphic tee of her favorite video game! Plaid shorts! This and many more outfits to choose from. Joy was basking at all the new and expensive clothes Riley had laid out in front of her. Ultimately Joy and Envy picked out the graphic tee and the light blue plaid shorts, topped with her brand-new navy blue Converse she was all ready to go! As soon as she packed her backpack she felt a tug that immediately pulled her back. Fear took control and she jumped " What happened?? Oh.. what is it Mom?"  Riley said looking towards the door. Riley's Mom crossed her arms and spoke in a stern voice " Riley, what did I tell you about those clothes? They're too.. Tomboyish... Why aren't you wearing the clothes I picked out for you? Those clothes are only for the weekends."  Riley began to roll her eyes but regained her composure as anxiety took over. "Mom, those clothes are nice, but I do a lot of sports practice so I need something more fitting, don't worry lots of girls have a similar style!". Her mom chuckled " I guess you're right. I'm sure some boy will still notice you... you're very beautiful my sweet Riley." she said patting Riley's head. Riley pushed her away out of embarrassment " Mooom, I'm going to be late.. "Riley's Mom nodded " Yes.. yes... well have a nice day! Tell me how it went!" but Riley took off in a flash. She was lucky she lived near her new school so she rode her bike there but as she got off she noticed someone familiar. "Hey Riley, I love the shirt" Riley jumped and looked behind her, there was Valentina (Val) Ortiz... she quickly moved back and spoke shyly "O-Oh. your into video games too? You're really cool Val!" she said blushing and looking down. Val looked at her puzzingly " Yes, everyone on my team loves video games as much as ice hockey!" she gently playfully punched Riley's arm " You know you can ease up around me! I would love to mentor you since I know what its like to be a freshie!" She looked at Riley and smiled playfully. Riley giggled "Thank you, I wish I didn't have to be a freshman, You're so lucky being a junior, I wish high school was over already" Val laughed " It's not so bad... well it is.. but hey! I'll show you the ropes, at least the food is pretty decent! perks of going to the bougie school." she said pointing at the group of girls decked in designer clothes. she patted Riley's head and messed her hair up affectionately. "You'll do fine Riley! Don't be so shy!" Riley giggled and smiled " Well.. I'm going to be late, let's hang out for lunch Val!" Val nodded and agreed. Riley ran to her new class and was as bored as ever. Ennui exclaimed " can't... take it anymore... math... so boring.." After what felt like an eternity, Riley came out of the classroom and got her lunch out of her locker. She looked around for Val but she couldn't find her anywhere. Eventually, she heard some voices talking. It sounded like Val and her friends! but anxiety and embarrassment made her hide behind a tree, she was too shy to interrupt their conversation. "That Michigan girl... Riley, I think.. why do you let her hang around us so much, Val?" said one of Val's cool friends. " She's from Minnesota, and she's actually pretty cool! she reminds me of myself when I was younger, so I just wanted to be a good mentor for her. " Val said brightly and enthusiastically. " Whatever, she's kind of creepy. she also looks like a boy in those clothes. It's like... she's a lesbian with a crush on you or something." the girl said with disgust in her eyes. Val looked a bit shocked and laughed a bit " I don't know.. she probably just admires me or something, anyway its not a big deal if she likes me or not, shes sooo young and I would never do anything to hurt her or lead her on." Val said while looking up from her phone. "Anyways, Dakota you shouldn't be so... homophobic? you know most of our friend group is queer right?". Dakota sighed " Yes.. yes.. I know.. your bisexual as well.. its just I'm looking out for you... I would hate to have to deal with an annoying little girl who has a crush on you. she might try to get you in trouble. " Valentina rolls her eyes " she's a sweet girl. hopefully she'll find someone her age".  Tears started to fall down Riley's eyes.. she felt like her anxiety and sadness was taking over... she had never considered the idea of her and Val together.. but it suddenly all made sense.. she had a crush on val! she was queer! and to top it all off val clearly didn't feel the same! she ran into an empty classroom and started blushing and balling thinking of all the times she spent with val. but she regained her composure... maybe she should tell someone about her crush on val..
