Fharan (Wingstale)
Despite it being eight in the morning, there is no sign of the sun. We're still drenched in complete and utter darkness. I hate this. It's arguably worse than the stars falling. At least that only lasts a few minutes at most, this nightfall is probably going to last a couple days.
I can't get up with it still being dark out, the sun is my reminder to get up in the morning. I sigh, reaching for my phone and opening my memories. Scrolling through all the good things made me feel better about the bad things happening.
Swiping my finger upwards, I start with the earlier photos and videos. It's one of my family: dad, mom, Aira, and me. I press the edit photo button and slightly crop it. Now it's just me and my twin, Aira, no parents. We looked so similar to each other, just the boy and girl versions of ourselves. Even our wings were carbon copies of each other.
I missed her so much.
But I didn't miss them.
I continued scrolling, laughing at our goofy videos and photos. My smile fades when I flick my finger to another picture and it's Aira in her hospital bed. She was so sick. She was in so much pain. And I couldn't do anything.
I slam my phone down into my side table, not wanting to scroll any further. Instead, I force myself up and out of my bed. I wasn't going to let the lack of sun tamper my mood. Instead, I slugged out of bed to the bathroom before heading downstairs.
My uncle, Bluein, is down there downing some coffee. He hears my footsteps and seems to snap back to reality from who knows where, "Morning, Fharan."
I give him a smile, "Morning, Uncle Blue." I say in the happiest tune I could muster up.
"Coffee?"
"No thanks, do we have any tea?" I've always been a tea addict, especially for the Illumini brand, they had the best tea in Eternity.
"Nah, we ran out." answered Uncle Blue, giving me a sorry look.
I sigh, sitting down at the table with him, "What's the plan for today?" I ask.
"There's gonna be a council meeting to discuss what we're gonna do about the nightfall. You going?" asks Uncle Blue.
"Sure." I mutter. Wingstale was a citizen-ruled district, council meetings were a regular occurrence when something big was going on.
"Better go and get ready then, I'm gonna leave soon." says Uncle Blue.
I nod, getting out of my chair and retreating back to my room. Looking in the mirror, I'm met with my rather disheveled state. Hairs all frazzled, the beaded bracelets I had on yesterday left red imprints on my skin, and pajamas were all wrinkled. I always took a while to get ready, so I got right to it.
Picking out a shirt with stripes and some shorts, I tossed them on before picking up my comb and trying to fix my hair. People say boys have it easy with their hair, but they couldn't be more wrong. I combed in all directions trying to find the perfect angle for my hair to sit before deciding for a less that ideal, but more up to standard, one.
I threw on on a bunch of bracelets, I never left the house until my wrists were all glammed up. Tossing on my sneakers, I flew downstairs in a rush, despite hitting my head on the roof. I know I wasn't suppose to fly in the house, but I was in a rush.
"Ready!" I shout, rubbing my hand to my head.
"Great, let's head out." replies Uncle Blue, exiting the house.
The air is cool without the sun, making me frown, but I wouldn't lie and say it didn't look pretty. Just made everything feel a bit more depressing. I watch as Uncle Blue spreads his wings and begins flying towards the meeting, me following shortly behind. His wings were bigger, him being older, and had a bit of a darker color scheme compared mine.
I see a few others flying to the meeting as well, all looking as annoyed and tired as I was. Eventually we arrived at the big gold building in the sky, it was a fancy one, big enough to hold all the citizens of Wingstale, which is what it was sort of meant for.
Soon we landed on the shiny gold steps of the building. I follow Unle Blue as he goes in and takes his usual spot in the huge table, me taking the one next to him.
The meeting begins shortly after. Most of the it I was lost and confused, everyone was stressed and yelling over each other, including Uncle Blue, which was a huge contrast to our usual more open and put-together meetings. I watch as Uncle Blue flops into his chair, fingers pinching the bridge of his nose, obviously exasperated.
I had a feeling nothing was gonna get done with how everything was going so far, so decided to excuse myself. Flying out of the building felt like a breath of fresh air, the tension in there was overbearing. I glare at the sky, everyone was in a bad mood because of this predicament. I didn't know why we were stuck in this nightfall, or why the stars were falling, dart, no one did. Though scientists and whatnot were looking into it, they failed to come up with a conclusive reason for all this.
But we for sure knew it wasn't a sign that something good was about to fall onto Eternity. I was scared for our planet, I didn't want anything to happen to it. There was just so much I hadn't done yet. I never moved past Aira, I never forgave my parents for..leaving when I needed them the most, I never found a special someone, I hadn't even left my district to see the rest of Eternity!
Waiting outside of the building, I merely listened to everyone's distressed yelling before deciding to go somewhere else. Wingstale was kinda empty, mostly everyone at the meeting except kids and the elderly. I go over to an empty park, sitting down on the blue bench, just thinking. And thinking. Getting lost in my thoughts was very on-character for me. When I was flooding in the thrashing waves of my brain, it was hard to get me out.
"Yo, Fharan?"
Snapping my head, I'm met with Uncle Blue, "Sorry, what?"
"You good?" he asks, sitting down next to me on the bench. I look forward at the park, now little children dotted the area, playing as if there was no wrong in the world.
I smiled to myself at the sight, "I'm fine, just got lost in my head. The meetings over?"
"Yup. Barely got anything done. Everyone's so dense right now." he answers.
I hum in acknowledgment, still looking forward at the kids playing.
"Hey," starts Uncle Blue, "wanna grab something to eat? Lighten up the dark mood right now."
My mood visible lights up, I love food. "Duh!" I shout, standing up.
Uncle Blue chuckles at me, slightly nudging my arm with his elbow playfully before ruffling my hair. I laugh before bumping him with my hip, causing his to take a few steps to the side. We both forget about everything as we laughed. It was nice.
At that point, I knew everything was gonna be okay. It had to be. I needed it to be.
