Lucia (Prowless)It'd only been two days since the news that was going to destroy our very lives had been released. Every single second in those days were just filled with worry and an overwhelming amount of anxiety that consumed all the districts whole. Not even Atlanticas seemed like they had an idea on what to do.
Dad and I stayed glued to the TV, never leaving each others sides. We talked, waited, watched, ate, and barely slept. The news channel hadn't been updating as much, probably preparing for the demise that was bound to happen at any second. Still, my dad opted on waiting there just in case they figured out anything new. Plus, Eternity had been thrown into chaos. People were going insane outside.
There was something on the very tip of my tongue that I wanted to ask dad. The star as we knew it could end right then and there, and I wanted answers to the question that had been burning in my chest ever since I was a little girl.
"Dad?" I asked, finally breaking the silence that had been for about ten minutes.
"Yes, Luci?" he asked, using my childhood nickname.
I smiled before turning my expression into a more serious one, "The star is going to end, we're all gonna die. There's no excuse in keeping secrets from me at this point. Please, dad, I want answers."
My eyes stayed glued to my father as he brought his gaze down to his lap, knowing exactly what I was talking about. "Lucia..." I watched as he struggled to find the right words before letting out a huge sigh, pressing his hands to his temple.
Staying patient, I hesitantly opened my mouth. "What happened to mom?"
Dad finally moves his gaze to me, his eyes looked sad though the rest of his face scrunched in an indescribable, yet uncomfortable emotion.
"She's in Illumini."
"What?"
Seeing the complete and utter dismay painted all over my face, dad stands up and walks over to the kitchen, leaving me there as a million questions flooded my mind.
"How? How is she in Illumini?" I press, prying for even a little bit more of context. "We aren't allowed to travel between districts! And-and why would she even go to the light district? Dad-!"
"Enough, Lucia."
"You can't do that!" I ramble, standing up and following him to the kitchen. Lucid must of noticed the tension and how upset I was, beginning to rub herself against my leg. I take note of her efforts, scooping her up in my arms before returning to dad, "You can't just drop something like that and think you can just walk away! Why won't you tell me-"
A sudden rumbling cuts me off. The ground begins to shake at such a speed that it sends vibrations up my body, knocking plants and decorations off the counter tops. Fear washes over me as I realize one thing.
It's happening.
The shaking only worsens as dad grabs me, running underneath the dining room table. He wraps his arms around me, tucking me into the crook of his neck as I hold onto Lucid tightly. My heart beat quickens, my pupils blown wide as my mind rushes through everything.
Dad tucks his face into my hair, his grip on me deadly. "Lucia it's okay.." he whispers, voice shaky and trembling, "I love you so much, more than you could ever imagine. I'm sorry for never telling you about mom.."
My mouth feels dry as I try to muster up a response, "I love you too dad. I love you so much." I felt as though nothing else needed to be said, I wanted my final words to be dedicated to dad.
I flinch as I hear the loud roars of bangs coming from outside and people screaming, still hugging Lucid, who tucked her face into me as dad held me in a protective manner.
A million thoughts run through my brain as I realize all the things I would never get to do again, all the things I hadn't done in my life. And to think I spent the final two days glued to the couch, waiting for updates, consumed by my own dread made me let out a scoff. Pathetic. I could have done so much more.
I scrunch my eyes tighter as the rumbling gets louder before coming to a complete halt, the silence deadly. Were we dead? Was it done?
Slowly lifting my heavy eyelids that were wet with tears, I was surprised to still see Lucid in my arms. Looking around, I was still underneath the kitchen table with dad hugging me.
"Dad.." I croaked out, my voice dry and itchy.
I feel his grip on me loosen as he lifts his head. His eyes widen as they meet my frantic ones, "What just happened?"
I don't answer, only fleeing from his grip to run to the front door. Our once small and decorated house was now a complete mess, I was careful not to step on any glass the littered the hard tile floor. I hear dad rush behind me and the soft fluttering of Lucid's wings as she follows as well.
I make it to the front door, swinging it opened and my face drops. Outside was worse. There weren't any stars on the floor, so who knows what the shaking was about if it wasn't the collapse of our star? Still, everything was in complete disarray. Building were broken, some I didn't even recognize. But not that they were just in such bad conditions after the shaking they were hard to identify, I mean completely new buildings I'd never seen in Prowless.
Looking over all the fallen trees and random items that decorated the roads, my eyes eventually fell onto the people. Why were there so many people? None of which I recognized to be from Prowless.
I feel dad's hand on my shoulder as a confused expression crept onto his face as well. Looking at all the new people, my eyes eventually fell onto a very scared looking boy. His eyes darted all around his environment, seemingly confused as to how he got there, before twirling around his index finger.
I watched perplexed before my mouth fell open upon what he created.
Light.
He had just created light, shining it up into the air to help him better see everything, all from his finger that he continued to swirl. He was from Illumini. I looked around as almost all the new people began doing the same. My eyes, now blown wide opened, went back to the buildings, the ones I hadn't recognized earlier. Scrunching my eyes I analyzed the scuffed text on one of them.
"Got the best tea in all of Illumini" read one of the barely intact signs from the building.
Was the light district in Prowless?!
Suddenly, I hear a voice come from the house, staticky and cutting out every few seconds. Dad drags me back inside, my legs refusing to work as the dazed look on my face never left, only getting worse. I see the TV on, someone trying to say something but getting muffled my static and others talking.
Eventually I was able to make out their words, "Citizens of Eternity! The scientists were wrong, Eternity was never going to collapse! Instead, our star has folded in on itself, mixing the districts!"
What.
Did they just say the star folded? Like what, a piece of paper?
Suddenly it hit me. On the star, Atlanticas was the top point, Prowless the point on the right to it while Illumini was the point left to it. No wonder all the light district citizens were on our doorstep, Eternity literally folded.
Suddenly a wave of nausea comes over me, my heart beat drowns out any other sounds from outside as the thudding in my head blocks my thoughts. The last thing I see in Lucid rubbing her head on my legs as dad runs to me as my eyes close and legs give out, fainting.
