A/N: I've had this in my drafts for a while but decided to rewrite it ahah!
Hope you enjoy <3

"Kelly, I erm, I got accepted into Harvard," said Y/N to her boyfriend of 3 and a half years, looking down to avoid all eye contact.
"Oh wow baby, that's— that's so great I'm so proud," he replied, embracing her in a hug.
This was an emotional day for them both; they knew one day they'd have to go their separate ways or go long distance but Y/N's Harvard acceptance made reality set in for both of them.
Y/N sniffled as Kelly embraced her, closing his eyes, taking in every bit of this moment.
"Don't cry my love, please," he added, placing a hand on her hair as she hid her face away; attempting to conceal her sniffles. "You got into Harvard, you should be happy, this has been your dream forever," Kelly whispered.
"I know Kel, I know, thank you, but the reality is just setting in now, we only have a few more months together before I leave."
"I know it's hard, but we're gonna get through this. I'm gonna apply to the academy and you're gonna go kick ass at Harvard! Boston is only 3 or so hours away. You'll be home for the holidays; we can get through this easily; together. I love you and I'm so proud of you."
"I love you too Kelly, you always know the right thing to say. We'll get through this," responded Y/N, her tear stained eyes looking into Kelly's sapphire blue ones.
"We're gonna go to prom, graduate, spend the entire summer together. We'll just have to make the most of this time and take each day as it comes."
After a moment, Kelly pulled away and left a soft kiss on Y/N's lips. "Now come on, let's get this movie on and celebrate your college acceptance!"
They got under the covers with their snacks and watched Y/N's favourite movie, snuggled up together, all nice and cozy.

Prom came and went, Y/N in a wonderful sparkling sky blue dress, Kelly with a matching tie. They danced the night away together, barely leaving each other's side on the dance floor, soaking up their last formal together before graduation.
Graduation also came, Y/N was named valedictorian and Kelly could be prouder of his girlfriend; they shed many tears, both happy and sad and took hundreds of photos.
Their summer was full of dates; movie dates, spa days, park dates, hiking and even a spontaneous trip to Florida Y/N's parents organised and due to Kelly's rough family situation, he was allowed to tag along as well.
They made memories to last a lifetime and soon it was time for Y/N to move to Boston.
Their goodbye was painful to say the least but they both vowed to try and make it work long distance; and it did!
Kelly would fly out in the middle of each semester and stay for a few days and Y/N would be home for every holiday and for the summer.
Soon enough, Kelly graduated the academy and landed a spot in the CFD and Y/N eventually graduated Harvard Law, became an attorney and moved back to Chicago.

It was safe to say, their relationship was able to last long distance and neither of them ever had a doubt about it after the first few months.

A year later, following Y/N's return, they went on vacation where Kelly proposed to Y/N!
To celebrate their successful careers, Kelly and Y/N booked a trip to their dream location, Bali, for 10 days and on their 7th night, they took a warm sunset walk on the beach, the shades of pink and orange in the sky creating the most romantic and perfect atmosphere for them both. Soon enough, Kelly was down on one knee, "Y/N Y/L/N, I know you know what's coming but I don't even know where to start with this. Over the last 10 years, you've shown me what love really is. You've made me the happiest, luckiest man on this earth and I love you with everything I've got. I don't want to ramble on too long but Y/N, will you marry me?"
Y/N was crying at this point but nevertheless nodding her head as she tried to get the words out.
"Yes, yes I will Kelly Severide," she said as she got down on her knees so she was the same height as him, wrapping her arms around his neck as he wrapped his around her torso before gently slipping the diamond on her finger, the waves creating the music for their moment.

The couple could barely wait; they planned an intimate wedding ceremony with all their family and friends, just 4 months after the engagement. Y/N in a sleek modern white dress and Kelly in his suit with Matt as his best man, Gabby as her Maid of Honour since the four of them were inseparable during and after high school.
"Kelly, I love you. When I think back over the last 10 and a half years, I can't help but smile at all the things we've achieved and the memories made. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect man to call my boyfriend, fiancé and finally my husband. You are my best friend and I can't wait to see what forever holds for us. I love you, so much Kelly Severide."
"Y/N, I can remember the first day of freshman year in math class, I was sat with Matt and in walked the most beautiful stunning 14 year old I had ever seen. She had braces and the cutest face. I thank my lucky stars every day that I, well that Matt forced me to, pluck up the courage and ask this girl out on a date at Christmas because little did I know, I had found everything I ever wanted and needed in life. You are my best friend, my soulmate and I can't wait to do life with you, my perfect girl. Y/N, I love you so much and I can't wait for forever with you."
They were both in tears by the end of their vows.
At their small reception, Y/N and Kelly had their first dance to their song, Chasing Cars and Y/N shared the most special news with her husband.
The two were engrossed in each other, slow dancing away to the song when Y/N spoke up, "Babe I have something to tell you," she smiled.
Kelly looked intrigued, "What is it my beautiful wife?"
"I found out something this morning, I'm pregnant!" She exclaimed, a happy tear rolling down her face.
"Really?"
She nodded in response, barely being able to let out a breath before Kelly picked her up and spun her around in the air.
"I couldn't wait to tell you, I'm so excited!"
"This is the best wedding gift I ever could've asked for. I love you so much."
"I love you too babe!"

Now, 5 years later, Kelly was a lieutenant at Firehouse 51 and they had a 4 year old son, Andy. Y/N's career was going well, working closely with the intelligence unit at the 21st District. It was December 15th and Y/N was putting Andy to bed after a long day at work, followed by cooking and cleaning the house. Kelly said he was running late since he was helping OFI with but he was home shortly after Y/N made her way back down.
"Hey babe," she greeted her husband, placing a kiss on his lips. "How was work?"
"Hi baby, it was good thank you, how are you?"
"I'm okay, just tired." Y/N then noticed the flowers Kelly failed to hide behind his back. "What are those for?"
"It's December 15th baby!"
Y/N paused for a moment, "Oh of course! I can't believe I forgot, the anniversary of our first date. I'm so sorry babe! Must be the pregnancy brain," she chuckled.
"Of course," smiled Kelly, placing the flowers down and placing his hands on Y/N's burgeoning pregnant belly. "How're my girls doing today?" He asked, before leaning down to place a kiss on it.
"Your baby girl is okay, a lot of moving around today, but I have been at the receiving end of her kicks in my ribs and other organs," replied Y/N.
"Taking after her brother already!"
Y/N chuckled. Kelly then handed her the flowers, her favourite tulips in an array of pinks and reds. Y/N placed another kiss on his lips in return before waddling over to the kitchen, placing them in a vase.
"Shall we eat? I made pasta," said Y/N.
"Sounds good baby," he replied.

Soon enough, they were wrapped up together on the sofa catching up on some Netflix.
"I can't believe how far we've come in the last 16 years. To think, we were teenagers when we first met," said Kelly.
"You mean when you first fell for me," joked Y/N.
"Well if I didn't, we wouldn't be here now, living our perfect life together."
"You got me there babe. I just can't wait to tell our babies the story of how mom and dad met in high school."
"High school sweethearts. That's really something special isn't it."
"It really is," she replied. And with that, she tilted her head up, planting a kiss on Kelly's lips.
High school sweethearts and it was going to stay that way forever.
