Diana and Rebecca engage in conversation
Rebecca: "It was a brave thing you did Diana, you saved all those girls lives, made those families smile once"
Diana smiles "I am just doing what anyone should have"
Rebecca "A lot of us wanted to do the same, but it is difficult without godly powers like yours"
Diana "It is not my powers, but my mind. Yes, my powers completed the task but my mind put me up to it in the first place. The gifts I received from the goddesses were for a reason, I would not have deserved them if I did not have the compassion or mentality to use them."
They pause for a second
Rebecca: "You told me to spare the guards at the warehouse. Why? Why not just end them?"
Diana: "We have a saying my people, don't kill if you can wound, don't wound if you can subdue, don't subdue if you can pacify, and don't raise your hand at all until you've first extended it"
Rebecca absorbs this quote and they sit down on a park bench
Diana "It is natural to want to end the life of an oppressor, but true justice is given by other means. If you enforce the rule to kill all enemies, you lose your way. Society crumbles, authoritative rule rises, inequalities start to form to the extent individuals do not know when or when not to take a life. Before I was born, my Amazon family lead missions of peace this way. We imprisoned the evil if we could, we did not give them the satisfaction of an easy way out or a warrior's death. Sometimes we redeemed and rehabilitated. I read up the laws of this country in the library, child abductors do not fare well imprisoned and shall face the consequences of their actions"
Rebecca learns and agrees
Rebecca: "I am guessing this is a policy you were taught?"
Diana nods "Yes my new friend. Like you I questioned this when I was younger. I asked a deep question to my mother. You see, Ares killed her wife Phillippus. She was one of the best to walk the Earth and my mother described her as her light in the darkness. Phillippus was brave, caring and died protecting my people. It broke my mother but the heart of Phillippus lives on. I asked my mother if killing first would have prevented deaths like hers. My mother sat me down and explained what I explained to you, assuring that Phillippus would have wanted us to keep our ideals"
They pause again and look at the ducks swim at the pond
Diana: "I noticed Etta and Minerva were...awkward to say the least"
Rebecca: "Ah yes. They used to date for a bit. They mainly kept it secret but they trusted me. But Tom eventually found out and their love life dwindled down. It then ended after Etta's parents found out. Since then, it has been practically non-existent"
Diana is confused "Why would people disapprove of this?"
Rebecca "Well you see, the concept of homosexual love is not as widely accepted as heterosexual love. It is not illegal in this country, but certain people look down on it. I guess that is not an issue on Themyscira"
Diana "My island is full of women, so what you call homosexual love, is just... love for us. My mother had a wife, my good friend Artemis spoke about someone. I tried to find love with women on the island too. I have attended many weddings. It is normal for us"
Rebecca "Lucky. You mentioned you had a lover?"
Diana "Well...my friend Mala I mentioned, we tried things out but agreed we should be friends. I tried to seek love elsewhere till I found Kasia. You may have seen her spying from a distance. She does that a lot. We were close and I considered asking for her hand in marriage at times but our love felt like it was not meant to be. We wanted it to work but something was not right. Then when you arrived and I left to fulfil my mission, we ended things. She knew I was destined for something else and she spoke the hard truth. So yes, I had a lover"
Rebecca then holds Diana's hand. Diana smiles and asks about Rebecca
Rebecca "Well...like you, I've tried to find my lover. I dated a boy ages go but it didn't work out. Then dated a girl but again, didn't work out. I had feelings for Etta whilst her and Minerva were in a rough patch but was actually talking to another guy at the time"
Diana nods
Rebecca "Yes so I am what you call bisexual. I have yet to find my lover whether it is a man or woman"
Diana smiles and rests her other hand on Rebecca's hand "I am sure we will find our true loves eventually"
Rebecca smiles back
Diana "This was a good idea my new friend. To learn about one another before we resume our work. It will be a shame to say goodbye. A part of my wishes this mission takes a while so we have more time but for what it is worth, I am glad to have met you"
Rebecca starts growing sad "You plan on leaving for good after you defeat Ares, back to that island?"
Diana grows confused
Rebecca "I'm sorry, it's just... we can use someone like you here. You've been here for a day and you saved multiple lives, saved my friend from a toxic work relationship, brought hope to people and made your mark here. There are many in need of a hero, you can be the woman we need"
Diana agrees "I do want this. The smiles of the girls I saved motivates me to save more, but my mother would not allow it. I have been instructed to defeat Ares and return for good. I cannot disobey my mother, but know this, your words will not go in vain. I will convince her"
Rebecca smiles and taps Diana's arm
Rebecca "Well... you will need a hero name. I am sure Nessie showed you her comic collection"
Diana smirks "What do you have in mind?"
Rebecca: "The Amazon Hero. Amazonia. Lasso Lass. The Wonder Princess."
Diana: "I love the name Wonder, try more with that"
Rebecca: "Wonder Princess. Woman of Wonder. Wonder Warrior. Wonder Woman. Yes Wonder Woman! I love that!"
Diana agrees and nods "Wonder Woman I shall be"
Rebecca sits closer to Diana
Diana "So how do you know Julia and Nessie?"
Rebecca: "Well like you, I came into Boston pretty lost. I was finishing boarding school till I got a call saying my parents died in a mission. I was not able to get the full details at the time. I was sent to Julia's house and she took me in as her second daughter. She fostered me till I joined the army myself. I worked a part time job under Tom but left almost immediately and worked for Steve. He really stood up for me and offered me a job with good pay. Julia was against it but she understood. I uncovered some army files and saw records of a large man in dark armor slaughter my parents
Rebecca begins to cry and Diana holds her hand
Rebecca: "Ares killed my parents and I vowed to avenge them. I miss them so much"
Diana then hugs Rebecca and the hug for a while. Diana too sheds a tear
Diana "I promised you that we shall defeat Ares and I intend to keep this promise. Your parents are heroes my friend. Their deaths shall not go in vain"
Diana then wipes the tears of Rebecca's eyes "We shall resume our mission tomorrow morning, for now my friend, tell me the best place to find some vegetarian food"
Rebecca holds Diana's hand as they go to a food place and have a bite to eat.
