I paced back and forth in my bathroom, realizing that throwing a party was actually tough work. Everyone Hades and I asked, turned down the offer, other than all our friends and the two weird band kids. Why does Stacy always make it look so easy? The more I think about her, I realized she might actually be throwing a party tonight, and that's why everyone rejected my inciting invitation...! God, she's so... so... Perfect!
I continued walking around the tiny space, so many thoughts filling my already cramped mind. I just got out of the shower, and the floor was still slick and slippery from the water.
...I realized that too late.
Slipping, I crashed down on the tile floor, cursing up a storm. Sitting up, my head spun, but I wasn't injured too bad... At least I don't think so. A few seconds later, Quinn came bursting in only to, you know, regret it. She covered her eyes, leaving as soon as she came in.
"Are you okay, Alice?" she asked from the other side of the door, her voice muffled. "Did you fall or something?"
"Yeah... Yeah, but I'm fine! All good."
I got up, putting on my outfit for the evening-- a cute blue dress from Lululemon! I left the bathroom to see Quinn on my bed, holding onto a white mask, looking at it very intently.
"What's this?" she looked at me, holding the mask up.
I snatched the plastic object from her. "A mask? It was from prom last year, duh."
"Oh. Well, I wouldn't have known that, I didn't go to prom because I had a dia--"
"Yeah, yeah, your diabetic shock. Does it get old talking about that? Diabetic shock this, diabetic shock that..."
"So you do remember?!"
I threw the mask into the pile of clothes in the corner, sitting next to her on my bed.
"I did come up only to check on you, but..." she started, looking at my floor. "Now I wanna talk about that Jack kid."
"That prick? Yeah, turns out he took my parking spot today! HIM!"
"He's downstairs talking with Hades, an--"
I jumped up, staring down at Quinn.
"HE'S WHAT?"
"Did you not invite him...?"
"No! He's creepy, why would I invite someone like that? Think about it, this kid shows up at school AFTER they found a dead body in the mall! Isn't that suspicious?!"
"Hey, I totally get it. I've got a bad feeling about him too. Hades must've invited him then."
"God, just what I need."
Not even waiting for Quinn to catch up and walk with me, I stomped down the stairs to see a lot of people waiting in the living room.
"Alice! Look, a bunch of people came for the party!" Hades yelled.
