It was the following day after that whole party incident. Alice, Hades, Jack and I sat on my couch, looking over the only evidence we had to get moving in the right direction. Just like detectives... I guess. As we were discussing, we had the news on. At first it was talking about the 6th graders who beat math scholars in calculus, then, it started talking about what's been going on the past two days.
"It was just last night that police had discovered the mutilated body of 18 year old Kelly Marianne Daines, a high school honor student as well as the student council president. The scene was graphic, almost similar to the mall incident earlier this week. Police are still investigating, and we send our deepest condolences to the victim's family and friends. Truly upsetting."
"I heard it's gonna be a hot minute until your boyfriend gets out of jail, Alice," Jack says after the news report is done. "Sorry, it's irrelevant, I know. Just thought I'd say something about that."
"Great... Glad you did." Alice mutters, covering her face with her hands.
They all slept over last night-- not Jack though, that'd be weird. He just showed up at my house this morning. I think Hades told him where I lived. But besides the point, Alice didn't sleep at all last night. Every hour or so, I'd awake to see her staring at pictures of Kelly on her phone. I wasn't ever close with Kelly, but I know this is hard on her. She's exhausted...
We were quiet. Too quiet... There's really nothing to talk about right now. We hardly have any evidence to go on besides who was absent from the party and who saw Kelly last.
"Nick couldn't have done it, could he?" Hades starts up, glancing at me.
"He was too busy looking for Kel," Alice refutes, putting her hands on her lap. "Yeah, their relationship was rocky, rockier than Twisted Sister, but he still loved her."
"He seemed genuinely worried, too," I added. "I think he was one of the first people to leave after... you know..."
"Still, the greatest serial killers were the greatest actors," Jack rebutted. "Not sure it would be Nick, though. It seems too... perfect? To be true."
"Okay, I get that," Hades sighed, hanging their head low. "Him being it would be too easy..."
"Yeah," I mumbled. "Something tells me it might not be a high schooler, though. Think about it-- Most of our school-- besides Freshmen-- were at the party. Even Alice's boyfriend, after not seeing him most of the night, made an appearance, he's off the list."
"Wow, you accused my boyfriend?" Alice asked.
"Just a little bit-- but he's cleared, so it's fine. Kelly could've gotten in the way of something between adults. It makes sense since we have no idea who the mall victim is yet."
"Well, wait a minute," Jack rebutted, again. This kid can't shut up. "Earlier, at the party, you said Chad didn't show up, and that Chad and Nick used to be friends but had a falling out because Nick used to date Stacy."
