2/3... finally...
four years later.

after the last of your things were brought to toorus house, you marveled at the sights and sounds of argentina. you had to admit, it was amazingly beautiful. it was crazy to think of how far he had come and how bizarre his new life was.

"this is what happened after i stopped chasing perfection."

you looked up at him, his back was turned to you and he was looking out a window at the incredible view he had. "i got every i wanted. the girl, the dream. who cares about high school nationals. i made it. i did it." you could hear the pride in his voice and it made your heart swell with admiration.

"you really are a cool guy tooru."

he gasped a little before turning around with a huge grin on his face, "hearing you admit that makes me feel like a little kid." he had a slight giggle in his voice as he ran to you, engulfing you in a hug. it was hard to believe that you both had made it. you had ended up quitting your job as an editor and becoming a sports journalist. which made moving all that much easier. after all, you now had a free ticket to tons of professional volleyball games.

when oikawa had finally set you down, you noticed a shy look on his face that you hadn't seen since high school. after so long together you had thought you would never see that look again, but you were wrong.

"let's go out somewhere nice tonight. get dressed up. between you finally being all moved in and your new career we have so much to celebrate. a whole new life."

you could feel that he had something up his sleeve but ignored it. he loved surprises and surprising you in particular. so you had no plans to spoil his fun. you simply agreed to his plans and let him do as he wished.

arriving at what did not look like a restaurant, but instead just a single table in a beautiful garden, you began to fully understand what might be going on. it was the full nine yards. flowers of every kind in vases everywhere, candles galore, string lights, and expensive, delicious looking food already set out. you didn't even fully notice the expensive champagne sitting on the table as well. the dinner was comfortable, the food was incredible, and the company was irreplaceable. you discussed everything from failed relationships while you were apart, to the tokyo olympics surprise, and of course your best friends.

"i missed you more than you will ever know." his voice changed suddenly, it wasn't bright, it was serious, and he maintained heavy eye contact. "i thought surely eight years apart would've killed us for good..." you felt anxiety creep up as he continued talking, "...i was wrong. i have never been happier to be so wrong. you are the best thing that has ever happened to me..." you watched as he stood up, coming around to kneel in front of you, and that's when it hit you,

"[full mame], will you marry me? i never want to spend that long without you again, i want to spend the rest of this life with you, and every life after this one."

you froze, staring into the brown eyes of the man who knew you better than anyone, who you spent eight years of your life yearning for and missing in your bones. the anxiety was replaced with elation. pure happiness and joy erupted out of you as you ignored the box in his hand and instead wrapped your arms around his neck,

"how could i say no?"

you heard him laugh, your favorite sound, as he stood up with you, in turn wrapping his arm around your waist. when you finally broke apart he slipped the ring on and smiled, this really was his proudest moment.

the moment, however, was interrupted when you heard the leaves around you rustle and crunch. you snapped your head around to see iwaizumi and kaede both teared up, phones in hand recording the whole thing. you looked back at your now fiancé who just smiled,

"figured we could start going on double dates now!"

the four of you laughed as iwaizumi took his best friend into a solid hug. both smiling and talking, they really were the best friends you ever saw. kaede took you into an embrace of her own, rocking back and forth with you as she went on about how happy she was. taking your hand and examining the ring as you realized just how expensive it must've been.

the warm air on your skin and your favorite people around you made you feel joy beyond words. this was the beginning of a new life, a new adventure. and you couldn't have picked better company.
