(Trigger Warning: Gore)
As the evening sun dipped below the horizon, the group gathered outside the inn, the air thick with tension and unease. The argument from the previous day still hung over them like a dark cloud, but there was an unspoken understanding that they needed to confront the horrors of Havenfell together.
Felicity stood close to Juno, feeling a mixture of fear and excitement. Despite the terror of the previous night, there was something comforting about having Juno by their side. Juno's arm brushed against theirs, and Felicity felt a spark of connection.
"We're really doing this, huh?" Juno said, her voice soft but steady.
"Yeah," Felicity replied, managing a small smile. "We are. We'll stick together."
Elliot and Pete stood nearby, exchanging a quiet look that spoke volumes.
Poppy and Rin chatted quietly, their friendship deepening with each shared moment of fear and courage. Poppy's laughter, though subdued, brought a brief lightness to the group.
Callum and Nathan walked side by side, their shoulders brushing. There was a subtle warmth between them, a promise of something deeper that neither was quite ready to voice.
Alex lingered at the back; his expression unreadable. Bree, resolutely ignoring him, pulled Felicity aside as the group prepared to head out.
"I'm sorry, Felicity," Bree said, her voice tinged with regret. "I should have seen how shitty Alex was being. I should have been there for you more."
Felicity shook their head, offering Bree a reassuring smile. "It's okay. We all make mistakes. What's important is that we're here now, together."
Bree nodded, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "Thank you. I'll do better, I promise."
The group set off into the darkening streets of Havenfell, their flashlights casting eerie beams of light. The town was unnervingly quiet, the usual sounds of nightlife replaced by an oppressive silence. Every shadow seemed to hold a lurking threat, and the group's nerves were stretched taut.
They moved cautiously, scanning the area for any signs of the demons that had haunted their nightmares. The tension was palpable, but there were moments of quiet camaraderie that helped to ease their fears. Juno leaned closer to Felicity, her presence a comforting anchor. Callum and Nathan exchanged subtle glances, their bond growing stronger with each shared experience.
As they turned a corner, a sudden noise made them all jump. A low growl echoed from a nearby alley, sending chills down their spines. They shone their flashlights into the darkness, revealing a grotesque figure emerging from the shadows.
The demon was a horrifying sight to behold. Its skin was a sickly, mottled gray, covered in oozing sores. Its eyes glowed with an unnatural, malevolent light, and its mouth was filled with razor-sharp teeth that dripped with a black, viscous substance. Its limbs were elongated and twisted, ending in claws that looked capable of rending flesh from bone.
"God, what is that?" Bree whispered, her voice trembling.
Before anyone could react, Alex pushed Poppy forward, using her as a human shield. "Take her!" he shouted; his voice laced with panic.
The demon lunged, its claws tearing into Poppy's flesh with sickening ease. Blood sprayed in all directions as Poppy screamed, a sound of pure, unadulterated terror. The demon's claws sliced through her abdomen, spilling her intestines onto the ground in a gruesome display. Her eyes widened in shock and pain as she collapsed, her body convulsing in its final moments.
The group watched in horror, paralyzed by the brutality of the attack. The demon's jaws closed around Poppy's neck, and with a sickening crunch, it ripped her head from her body. Blood poured from the gaping wound, pooling around Poppy's lifeless form.
"NO!" Rin screamed, rushing toward Poppy's body, but Nathan held him back, his own face pale with shock and grief.
Alex took a step back, his face twisted with fear and guilt. "I-I didn't mean... I..."
"You're a coward!" Juno shouted, her eyes blazing with fury. "You let her die!"
Felicity felt a surge of anger and sorrow. They grabbed Juno's hand, squeezing it tightly. "We need to get out of here. Now."
The group turned and fled, the demon's growls echoing behind them. As they ran, Felicity's mind raced, the image of Poppy's brutal death burned into their memory. The night's horror had only begun, and they knew that surviving Havenfell would require every ounce of strength and unity they could muster.
