When it came to power, money and looks, the students of Jooshin High would usually put Ko Bitna in second place. In terms of academics, Ko Bitna could never be second. That was too low for her.
Being one of the five elite students brought about rumors, unwanted attention, and everything else that came with fame.
Bitna learned not to care about things she couldn't control. Besides, rumors existed because people had to talk about them to keep the conversations going.
Ko Bitna came from an extremely wealthy family, but her life hadn't always been easy.
Before her parents adopted her, she was in an adoption center for almost four years.
That wouldn't have been a problem if she wasn't the youngest one, and as everyone knows, the youngest are the easiest to pick on.
When her parents, who could not have biological children, met her for the first time, they instantly fell in love with the little six-year-old whose hair hadn't been properly cut in years. Her clothes were all hand-me-downs with numerous holes that she tried sewing but failed miserably.
From the moment they signed the adoption papers, Cha Jimin became Ko Bitna, the heir to the Ko Lawfirm, Jung Real Estate, and most importantly, the heir of Ko&Jung, her parents' hotel chain.
Bitna knew how much she meant to her parents, so she always did her best, in every aspect of her life. She had the best marks, alongside her best friend Jung Jaei, several trophies from dance and taekwondo competitions, and she made sure to always take care of herself and look presentable.
When her parents proposed the idea of adopting a boy, Bitna was all in for it. Her parents worked a lot but still had time for her, mostly over the holidays. Feeling that she was left home alone most of the time, the two bought her a penthouse apartment close to her high school, knowing she didn't like to stay alone at the mansion with the small number of staff they had.
Sure, her little brother would live in the mansion and Bitna could live wherever she wanted, but her parents told her they found a polite and charming nine-year-old and wanted to get him out of the adoption center. Even if they had been donating to various adoption centers and homeless shelters after seeing Bitna's state, they still felt the need to shower another kid with love and money, and Bitna had no problem with that.
Bitna's parents were nice people. The money they made never got to their heads, and they made sure it wouldn't get into Bitna and her little brother's, Moonbin's, head either. They were strict regarding gifts, making sure the two children knew how hard it was to make money, and the two would always have to achieve something to get what they wanted.
Her little brother was an angel too. He wanted to change his name into Yunho, and even though Bitna and her parents found the name Moonbin very suitable for him, it was his choice. Bitna never called him Moonbin after he changed his name, but he kept on calling her Jimin for quite a while before coming up with a few nicknames.
To most of her friends, the thought of not getting something immediately was unimaginable, yet Bitna knew how money worked and just how valuable each item in her possession was.
Her parents also taught her not to rely on others. That's why the girl did almost everything on her own. From cooking and washing the dishes, to ironing her laundry and picking out the perfect outfits without anyone's help. Bitna knew it all.
Some envied her, some admired her. Some were in love with her, others couldn't bear to look at her.
Yet there she was in all her glory. One thing she was better in than anyone else, was not giving a shit about things that she didn't find relevant.
Someone stared daggers at her? Maybe their parents yelled at them the night prior.
Someone gave her chocolate? She'd make sure to give them something in return.
Someone was talking shit behind her back? She didn't have ears on the back of her head for a reason.
Someone complimented her? There would always be something she'd be able to compliment that person on as well.
Ko Bitna had it all. She was the whole package of both looks and skills, and she was never afraid to use either to her advantage.
