Claire:

It was getting late. Really late. Luckily, Jim wasn't murderous like before. I arrived back to the room and hopped through the window. Jim was on the bed with his sword in the corner. He smiled when he saw me. I smiled back.

"You came back."

"Of course I did J-I mean, uh Atlas."

Right at the moment, a voice was outside.

"Atlas?"

It was Vendel.

Jim:

I was a a bit confused when she almost called me something that started with a J. She didn't finish. Then I heard Dad's voice outside.

"Atlas?"

Shoot!

I signaled Claire to hide, and she made a shadow portal and hopped in it, right when Dad came in.

"Atlas? Who were you talking too? I heard voices."

I nervously gulped.

"No one Dad. What do you need?

Claire:

I made a small shadow portal on the ceiling, just enough to stick my head in, and listen to their conversation.

"No one Dad. What do you need?"

Vendel sighed.

"I wanted to talk to you about that girl."

My eyes widened, and Jim rolled his eyes.

"Dad, She's long gone."

"We didn't find her body. She could have gotten away, and if she did that is very dangerous for us, and our kind."

Jim rolled his eyes again and scoffed.

"She was just a dumb girl dad. No one will believe her. And she is dead. Gone. I put my sword right through her stomach. No way she survived that."

I put my head back through the portal. He still didn't know it was me. I felt hot tears coming out of my eyes, but I forcefully blinked them back. It wasn't his fault. I knew that. So why was I acting like this? Why now?

Keep it together, Claire. Keep it together.

You need to be brave. You have to do this.

For Jim.
