Maeve's Point of View

On my front porch – well not really, the house didn't have a porch, so next to the entrance – stood two tall and muscled figures I recognised as Gerard Gibson and Johnny Kavanagh.
And they had probably already rang the doorbell.
Well, I'm fucked.

Deciding to just bite the bullet I headed over there as quietly as I could to try and not be noticed.

"Hello boys." I shouted at them once I got near my front door.
I wanted to give them a little scare, no judging.
Clearly startled they both turned around and finally noticed me.

"Maeve?" Gibsie spoke. "What are you doing here?"

"I live in this house." I rolled my eyes. "What are you two doing here?"

"I have to get my car back." He reminded me.

"It's there, go get it." I pointed at the car 200 metres away from me in the parking lot.

"It would be rude if we just came by and just grabbed the car without even saying hello." Johnny Kavanagh rebuked.

"In that case, hello." I rebuked. "Now, go."

"Actually, I wanted to have a chat with your bother." Johnny added.

"Why?" I asked curious.

"To make sure he doesn't kill me." Gibsie presumed.

"Yes, and I wanted to ask him how you were doing."

"Why do you care?" I grinned sarcastically.

"Common courtesy." Johnny grinned back.

"In that case, I'm fantastic. In fact, I've never been better." I raised my middle finger at him. "Feel free to leave at any moment now."
If he had rang the doorbell and woke up my uncle, I was dead, but if he stayed here and kept chatting with me, and my uncle was on the other side of that door, I was going to be even deader.
Johnny had to leave and he had to leave fast.

"What are you doing outside of your house, anyway?" Gibsie quizzed.
Before I could answer Johnny Kavanagh talked.

"And wearing yesterday's clothes." He said.
In that moment I was suddenly aware I was still wearing his jacket, so I started to take it off when he stopped me.

"That's not what I meant." He pointed out. "You can give that back to me Monday at school, I'm not in a hurry."

"What did you mean, then?" I asked suspicious.

"Where did you go yesterday after..." he stopped himself. "Where did you go?"
Thankful that he had apparently not told Gibsie about my episode I answered honestly.

"To a car shop." I sighed. "I needed to cool off."

"In a garage?" Gibsie chimed.

"Joey works there." I concluded.

"So, you spent the night at a car shop?" Johnny questioned.

"Nothing like sleeping in a car seat for your back, it truly does wonders." I said sarcastically. "No, I didn't spend the night there."

"Where did you sleep then?" He continued.

Oh. Oh.
He wanted to know where I spent the night.

"That's none of–" I started before I was interrupted by the door opening.

"Mister Rugby, Gussie didn't I tell you to not ring the doorbell and just call me when you arrived?" Joey crossed his arms across his chest.

"Ah, sorry lad. I forgot to tell Johnny." Gibsie looked apologetic. "I didn't wake anyone, did I?"

"Just me." A small voice behind my brother uttered.
There stood Shannon, still in her pyjamas looking as pretty as ever.

"Hey, Shan." I made my presence known. "How are you feeling?"

"I'm good." She looked at me. "Is that my dress?"

"Maeve get inside and change into some more comfortable clothing." Joey remarked. "And give Shannon back her dress."

"Yes, sir." I gave him the military salute and headed in when I noticed he gestured for those two gorillas two come inside.

"Seriously?" I huffed out loud.

"It's bad manners to leave them outside." Joey said, and I knew in that moment he was letting them in just to spite me, so I grabbed him by arm and whispered in his ear.

"What if he wakes up?" I worried.

"He's even more hangover than usual, yesterday he came back to the house black out drunk. I doubt he even noticed you were gone. He's not going to wake up before another couple of hours." Joey assured me.

"Shan, come with me." I told her. "Let's leave the boys to have their little chat."

"Actually, I wanted to talk to Shannon too." Johnny spoke.

"You did?" Shan eyes him suspiciously. "Why?"

"Jaysus, you're just like your sister." He raised his hands in surrender. "I just wanted to personally make sure you were alright, you weren't at school this week."

"Oh." Shannon looked surprised. "I'm fine now, thanks. I just needed to rest."

"I'm glad you're okay, Little Shannon." Gibsie added. "You sure gave us all a big scare when we saw unconscious back on the pitch."
At the mention of what happened on her first day of school my sister immediately blushed and lowered her head almost in shame, noticing that Johnny elbowed his friend in the ribs and glared at him.

"Ow, what was that for?" Gibsie asked before he realised his mistake. "Oh, sorry Little Shannon."

"It's okay." She whispered.

"You don't have anything to worry about, you know that right?" Gibsie told her. "Cap here made sure of it."

"And he better keep his word." I glared at both of them, before focusing on Gibsie. "Little Shannon?"

"What? I like giving people nicknames, it's my thing." Gibsie said. "You're the only one with an aversion to them, Vi."

"Nope." I sighed.

"Eve?" He tried.

"Still no." I shrugged.

"Mayo?" he proposed.

"Like the sauce?" I looked at him outraged.

"Maeby?" he concluded.

"I didn't think anything could be worse than Mayo, I was wrong." I remarked.

"Please stop, both of you." Joey interrupted us. "Maeve go upstairs and change, Shannon and I will chat with these two lunatics in the meantime."

"What did I do?" Johnny exclaimed.

"You annoy me." Joey responded. "And you sent Shannon to the hospital."

At that Johnny wisely decided to shut up and sit on the couch next to Gibsie who had already made himself welcome.
Knowing that if I didn't go upstairs in the next ten seconds, chances were that my brother would drag me there, I gave a kiss on the cheek to Shannon, told her to kick the boys if they irked her and went up to my room.
