Main character syndrome

After finally managing to get Gibsie off me I decided to skip the rest of the day. Not because I actually wanted to skip school, but because I really didn't want to see Johnny Kavanagh again. As it turns out, the school is so big that nobody even bothers coming to look for you, and if they do, chances are that they won't find you.

Looking at my watch for what felt like the hundredth time, I prayed to whatever god was out there to get my bus here faster, possibly before someone noticed me out here and made the crazy decision to try and talk to me. Once it started to rain, I gave up on staying outside and decide to wait inside the school for 5:30 to roll around. I glanced at the watch once again, 4:23. Fuck.

"I've been looking for you all day. Did you seriously just miss half the classes on your first day of school?" said Niamh suddenly appearing at my side. "Apparently, you're popular now. Johnny Kavanagh and Gerard Gibson are both looking for you everywhere." She said grinning. "What did I miss in the few minutes I've left you alone?"

"Apparently Captain Wonder knocked my cousin out with a ball to the head." I stated cringing at the reminder.

"What. Are you kidding me? You think a guy in his position wouldn't make that kind of mistake. But what about Gibsie, did he knock you out?" she asked.

"I wish, he caught me overhearing the boys' conversation in the locker room and basically blackmailed me into accepting to be his friend."

"So, in a matter of three hours you managed to befriend the most popular guys at school, without even trying. Is this what being the main character feels like?" She said faking exasperation.

"I didn't want to befriend Gibsie and Johnny and I aren't friends. After he knocked Shannon out, I threatened him and he dragged me in a closet with him to try and talk it out, which ended badly because we basically cussed each other out the whole time." I said trying to recall everything that happened just a few hours before.

"Wait a second, you threatened the Johnny Kavanagh and you're still here. Girl, his fangirls are going to kill you if they find out. Also, what the heck were you thinking, there's a reason nobody messes with him. That boy is the very definition of trouble." She said almost suddenly looking worried.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"He doesn't just have a lot of power here at Tommen, who by the way accepts massive donations from his parents, but all around town. Everybody loves him around here, he's their star. He literally has the power to destroy someone life if he so wishes."

"Shit." I replied totally dumbfounded. I was an idiot, a soon to be dead, beautiful idiot.

"Yeah, shit."
