Genevieve had been standing in front of the telephone for a few minutes now, staring at it as if it had been overgrown with poison ivy. There was no plan on how to stop the apocalypse, or what to do when the Commission got here to capture them, however, after seeing Five finally cross paths with his siblings, there was a burgeoning longing within her. Even though she had spent half her life forced to drowse off in a grain of steel, she still held on to that glimmer of heartwarming memories with her mother and Nikolai. It had been a long time ago for her, but the longing was still there in analogous measure, she wouldn't even dare glint at what was happening to them on the Switchboard even if she could.
It just wasn't right, not after living through a time when they were already dead.
Genevieve had gotten used to the fact that the only person she got who was still alive was Five Hargreeves, the son of the one who was the plenary grounds behind the severance of her little family. There had never been a gander of them getting a second chance, but they had, and fate added two more people to be cherished by her in the process. Lila and Micaiah. In that short amount of time, she had built an atypical bond with them, and she felt better even when she had to live in the most ferocious place ever. And it should have stopped there, but knowing Five for so long, who had long been moonstruck on returning his life to the way it was, meant that her life was bound to be overhauled once again.
No, it didn't mean Genevieve disliked Five's decision, this was probably for the best. They both loathed the Commission (though the organisation was the one that offered them a taste of life again, they still didn't trust them), yet they couldn't leave each other behind. Wherever one went, the other followed, it was their quiescent agreement. If they had to face a plethora of obstacles, they would go through it together. Except for encountering her family, that was something she needed to do alone for now.
Leaving the telephone without attempting to call anyone today, she decided to stride to where Five was. Walking through each empty cloister made Genevieve wonder if there ever had been fondness that jammed this place, it seemed too detached and deserted, no wonder Five had chosen to do something menacing to prove that he was worthy of something more than all of the tasks he was given. But everything was starting to get to his head, she understood that when she found him sitting all alone while literally drilling a hole at the painting of himself. She eyed the boy for a moment before taking the seat next to him, he didn't need to look up but he knew it was her.
Genevieve reached his hand, interlacing their fingers as she rested her head on his shoulder. "You have second thoughts."
A careless laugh bubbled in his throat. It was quite ironic how she could read him so easily at times, yet he was glad she was able to apprehend the situation without him wording anything. "I'm not sure. I feel like this is a bad idea," he clicked his tongue, shaking his head. "Well, it is. But I keep thinking if coming back was the right choice."
"You want to save your siblings, that's why you came here," she reminded him. "You've been through a lot, you worked so hard, Five. You deserve this, you deserve to be with your family again."
"What about you?" Five bumped his head against hers gently, as if invoking her to look at him. "I haven't heard your thoughts about all this."
Genevieve lifted her head and exhaled a sigh. "Does it matter? We're here already."
"Eve, be honest with me, please?" the boy changed his position so he could fully face her, staring meticulously at the girl. "I want you to be happy. If this isn't it then tell me, tell me what I have to do. We can go back to the Commission, or somewhere far away. Wherever you want as long as you're pleased."
"I don't know," she paused, pinched the bridge of her nose, "it's quite impossible to be happy in this state of the world now. Especially after everything we've been through, and knowing what's going to happen."
