Varian's POV:

I'm so hungry…

I feel so helpless laying in the fetal position on the cold tiles of my prison cell. There's nothing I can do about it now. The guards have passed by at least several times now, but they haven't even bothered to look over at me.

Lifting my pounding head off the dirty floor, I take notice of a tray of food sitting right in front of me. For weeks, the guards and I have played this game where they give me food and I just don't eat it. It sounds like torture, and I won't sugarcoat it; it is.

I'm not entirely sure how doing this would benefit me, but I don't want the guards to think they have the upper hand. I am in control, whether they like it or not.

However, this constant ache in my stomach and limbs doesn't sit right with me.

A loud grumbling in my stomach causes a low groan to bubble up my throat. The stomping of the guards’ boots grows louder as I feel their presence coming closer and closer.

“Hey, kid, you doing alright?” One of the guards asks me.

“Look, he still hasn't eaten anything,” the second guard points out. “It's been what… two– no– three weeks now?”

The guards continue to mutter amongst themselves as I'm practically dying on the floor.

“Kid, listen, you need to eat something, alright?” The first guard pleads with me gently. “You can't keep doing this to yourself.”

“You'll… never… win…” I wheeze. My voice is barely audible.

The second guard sighs before saying, “This isn't a matter of who wins or loses. It's just us offering you food because you have the basic human right to eat. Quit being so stubborn.”

I don't respond to that. I'm too focused on how unfocused my vision is. It's been wavering for an uncomfortably long amount of time now, making it difficult to ignore. And… I feel so detached from reality. My senses are blurred, and I feel like I'm about to pass out. No, wait…
