Izu and Azur sat on the roof of the dorms, the silence between them heavy with the weight of the news that had just been delivered. The heroes' grim announcement had left a shadow over them both.
Azur let out a low snarl as the door to the roof creaked open, revealing Kat and Kai.
The snarl quickly faded, and Azur raced towards the wolf, shifting into his smaller form and curling up between Kai's shoulder blades.
Kai gave Izuku a nod before trotting back inside with the little green kitten.
Kat closed the door behind them and walked over to where Izuku sat on the edge of the roof."How was the meeting?" Kat asked softly, his voice barely above a whisper.
"It was fine," Izuku replied, turning his gaze to the dark sky above.
"If it was fine, you wouldn't be sitting up here with tears in your eyes, Izu. You can tell me." Kat gently guided Izuku's chin toward him, wanting to see his face.
"It looks like the prophecy is coming true," Izuku whispered, pulling away from Kat's grip and wiping away a tear that rolled down his cheek.
"There has to be more to it than that. We both knew it would happen eventually." Kat paused, studying Izuku's face. "It was the letter, wasn't it?"
Izuku looked away, silent.
"What did the letter say?" Kat asked, his voice almost a whisper.
"The fight with Shigaraki, it-" Izuku began, but his voice broke as new tears spilled down his cheeks.
"It was horrible," Kat supplied when Izuku trailed off.
"No, well, I mean it was, but that's not it." Izuku sighed and dropped his gaze.
Kat sat there quietly, waiting for Izuku to gather his thoughts.
"Do you remember the prophecy?" Izuku asked, looking at Kat, who nodded.
"Well, that fight with Shigaraki was the trial it spoke of."
Kat was silent, trying to process the information. "Okay, and that's bad news...?" He looked confused. "The trial is complete, so how much worse can it get from here?"
Images flashed through Izuku's mind: Shigaraki leaping to kill his mom, Kacchan and Kai lying in a pool of their own blood.
"I-I can't go through that again," Izu shook his head.
"And why not? We won. You won."
"But at what cost? The pro heroes nearly died. Some did! There were civilian losses. Yes, in the end, I killed Shigaraki, but was it really a win, Kacchan?" Izuku's voice rose with emotion.
"Yes, you defeated the villain and saved more lives than were lost, even if it was a trial. Don't you see—"
"What don't I see? I see the people I didn't save, that died because Azur and I couldn't unlock our dragon form sooner. The people that I FAILED to protect." Izuku wiped away another tear and stood, walking away from Kat.
Kat followed him. "This time it will be different. You guys have your third form, and you have Kai and me—"
"NO!" Izuku spun around, his eyes burning with fear. "You will go nowhere near the fight when it starts, whenever the hell that is."
Kat stared at him, speechless. "Why is that?"
"Are you seriously asking me this?" Izuku glared at him.
"Look, I may not be the number one hero like you, but I am a hero in training," Kat snapped back. "I'm not some weak boy."
"And I'm not saying you are," Izuku hissed.
"Then what are you saying, Izuku? I get you're scared, but why, I don't know. But I can't help you—"
"I nearly lost everything in that fight. Shigaraki nearly killed my mom and—" Izuku broke off, angry tears streaming down his face.
"And what, Izu?" Kat pushed.
"I-I..."
"Spit it out!" Kat snarled, losing his temper.
"I NEARLY LOST YOU, GOD DAMMIT!"
Izuku slumped to the ground, breathing in short gasps as sobs consumed him.
"I-I couldn't take that," Izuku cried. "I-I can't go through that again."
Kat froze, unsure of how to react.Kat stood there, tears welling up in his eyes as he watched Izuku crumble before him.
The sight of his beloved so broken and vulnerable shattered something deep inside him. He knelt beside Izuku, placing a trembling hand on his shoulder."Izu, I'm so sorry," Kat whispered, his voice raw with emotion. "I didn't realize... I didn't understand how much you were carrying."
Izuku's sobs grew quieter, but he still didn't look up. "I can't lose you, Kacchan. Not you, too."
Kat pulled Izuku into a fierce embrace, holding him as if he could shield him from all the pain in the world. "You won't lose me, Izu. I promise. We're in this together."
Izuku clung to him, the comfort of Kat's presence offering a fragile reprieve from his despair. The weight of their fears and the looming prophecy seemed to ease, if only for a moment.
"We'll find a way through this," Kat continued, his voice steadier now but still choked with emotion.
"You and Azur are stronger now. And you have all of us by your side. We won't let this prophecy dictate our lives."Izuku pulled back slightly, looking into Kat's eyes. "But what if it's not enough? What if we can't stop what's coming?"
"We will," Kat said firmly, cupping Izuku's tear-streaked face in his hands.
"Because we have to. Because you have to. You're the strongest person I know, Izuku. And I believe in you with all my heart."Kat squeezed Izuku tightly as they clung to each other. "I love you, Izu. We'll get through this. Together."
Izuku looked at him, the love and determination in Kat's eyes giving him strength. "I love you too, Kacchan. Forever."
No these aren't tears its just dust in me eyes.
Yes!
Thats it dust!
