Without disturbing him from his work, she turned and went inside to fetch some small vegetable seeds. The soil was too dry, so she watered it first, waiting for it to moisten. Occasionally, Zhou Yueshen would glance up at her. Soon, what she thought would take her days to dig, he finished in just one hour.
At the yard entrance, there was now a neatly arranged patch of land. Sini sighed to herself and brought a bowl of cold water for him. In their time together, she had come to know that Zhou Yueshen didn't like sweet things, preferring cold water over green bean soup. Zhou Yueshen took the bowl, tilted his head back, and drank it down in one gulp. Sini paused slightly, looking at him. From her angle, she could only see his cold, firm chin and the movement of his throat. Zhou Yueshen noticed her gaze, lowered his eyes, and looked away.
Sini's eyes trembled slightly, and she calmly withdrew her gaze. "I'll have to go back to the pigsty later. If there's anything you want to do, come find me at the pigsty, or wait until I get back, okay?" Sini nodded obediently, "Okay." Yao Yao stood by Sini's feet, mirroring her posture. Zhou Yueshen looked at the two, the coldness in his eyes and brows softened in a way that he couldn't express. He reached out and patted his daughter's head, then glanced at Sini again.
The wind was strong, tousling Sini's soft hair. She brushed it aside and looked at him with tender eyes as he held the child lovingly.
"I'll heat up lunch for you. Eat first before you go," she said.
Zhou Yueshen's lips curled slightly. "Hmm, I'll go upstairs and change first."
He carried Yao Yao into the house. Sini watched for a moment, then followed them inside and went to the kitchen to cook. Usually, to save effort, Sini always made a bit more food.
By noon, everything would be ready to eat.
She heated up the soup and dishes, noticing Zhou Yueshen still hadn't come downstairs. Knocking on the door, it opened, letting in a cool breeze that brushed against her face. Zhou Yueshen's tall figure stood at the doorway, looking at her.
She had just been busy in the kitchen and felt a bit warm. A few buttons of her blouse were loosely undone, revealing an impressive neckline. Her hair was tied up high, with a few delicate strands framing her face, which was fair and beautiful, exuding gentleness whenever she looked up.
Zhou Yueshen watched her for a moment, then reached out, grabbing her waist and pulling her inside.
Bang. The door closed. Sini was pressed against it, lightly gasping for air. She tilted her head back. "Wait, let's eat."
"No rush," he replied, then lowered his head to capture her lips. His large hand pressed against her waist, drawing her closer, their lips intertwining fiercely.
Sini felt like the ground had disappeared beneath her feet, her slender arms instinctively hooking around his neck. She wore a knee-length skirt, and with this motion, the hem instantly rose. The man's rough and large hand gripped her fair, smooth thigh, palm against skin, scorching and tender.
He carried her towards the big bed, and soon Sini was enveloped in the bedcovers. He kissed her for a long time, his chest pressed against her softness.
His large hand slid upwards, effortlessly undoing the buttons on her chest and exploring downward.
Outside, the gentle breeze blew through the window, but it couldn't dispel the fiery heat within the room.
An hour later, Zhou Yueshen came downstairs. The food on the table had long gone cold, and Yao Yao was sitting on the sofa watching TV, completely unaware of what had transpired. Upon hearing his footsteps, she turned around and saw her father. Immediately, she jumped off the sofa, clattering in her little sandals, and reached out for a hug. "Mama~"
Zhou Yueshen chuckled softly, thinking, did this woman only teach their daughter to say "Mama"?
He bent down and lifted his daughter, planting a kiss on her small face, his voice deep as he said, "Say 'Daddy.'"
"Mama~" Yao Yao hugged his neck, her eyes crinkling into a smile.
Zhou Yueshen pinched her little cheek gently but didn't insist further.
With one arm holding his daughter and the other carrying the dishes, he went into the kitchen to reheat the food. He prepared something for his daughter first, letting her eat by herself, and then quickly finished his own lunch. Yao Yao, full and sleepy, nodded off as she ate. Zhou Yueshen carried her upstairs and pushed open the bedroom door.
On the large bed, a slender and soft figure was deeply asleep under the covers. Sini, exhausted, was completely unaware of Zhou Yueshen's arrival.
Carefully placing his daughter next to her, Zhou Yueshen watched as Sini slowly opened her eyes in a daze upon seeing Yao Yao. Sini shifted slightly on the bed and, in a soft voice, asked Zhou Yueshen, "Aren't you going to be busy?"
Zhou Yueshen glanced at her sleeping face. Before he could reply, she had already drifted back into a deep sleep.
Zhou Yueshen tucked them both in, gently brushed aside Sini's soft hair, planted a light kiss on her cheek, and then quietly left the room.
In the city, the Fu and Si families were discussing the wedding date.
The last time Lin Sisi went to take care of Fu Yang, he got drunk. Something happened between them, and Lin Sisi left the Fu family in disarray, her clothes in disarray, crying.
Word of this incident spread throughout the courtyard. Everyone thought that Fu Yang, drunk, had forced Lin Sisi into something inappropriate. Although the two were engaged, private matters could have happened, especially in a strict military compound. Given Lin Sisi's appearance at the time, people couldn't help but think the worst.
As a result, the Fu family found themselves at the center of unwanted attention. What should have been a joyful occasion now became a scandal, and they were ashamed.
Furthermore, considering what had happened that day, it was clear their son was in the wrong. After all, he had been drunk, and Lin Sisi, being a girl, was clearly taken advantage of. Hence, they took the initiative to visit the Si family.
Naturally, the Si family was ecstatic.
After visiting the Zhou family and discovering the exceptional Zhou Yueshen, whom they had previously dismissed, the Si father returned home, eager to inquire about Zhou Yueshen. However, the final outcome left him very disappointed!
Originally, they thought Zhou Yueshen must be someone significant, given his acquaintanceship with Director Li and Chief Zhang, and his attire in military uniform. But upon investigation, they discovered Zhou Yueshen had indeed served in the military, but had been discharged for several years. Director Li and the others only knew him from his previous service in the military district. This revelation left them greatly disappointed.
Thinking about the substantial sum of money he had spent, Si's father couldn't sleep for several nights and his hair turned prematurely gray with worry. Thankfully, the marriage arrangements for his biological daughter had finally been settled, which relieved some of his anxiety.
Although he was disappointed with the adopted daughter's side, he took solace in the fact that the Zhou family lived in a luxurious house and seemed financially secure. Moreover, their connections with Director Li and others meant that even if Zhou Yueshen wasn't as influential as he had imagined, he would likely be able to assist them in the future. This brought some comfort to Si's father.
Lin Sisi sat shyly to the side, feeling embarrassed by the rush to set a wedding date due to the incident. Because Fu Yang was about to return to the military soon, there wasn't enough time for a proper wedding. The Fu family decided they would register their marriage first and hold the ceremony later when Fu Yang returned and they had more time.
Lin Sisi thought about Sini's grand wedding and although she felt a bit dissatisfied, she knew it wasn't appropriate to say anything. After all, once the marriage was registered, she would officially be part of the Fu family.
