When he came to his senses, his expression darkened. "Si Nian, what do you mean by this? Explain yourself. Do you think this is funny? What good does it do you to blow this whole thing out of proportion? Why are you being so annoying?"
Si Nian laughed at this, her tone laced with self-mockery. "In your eyes, I've always been this annoying, so what's strange about it? Do you really think that after all these years, my personality would suddenly change because of Lin Sisi? Does she even deserve that?"
Fu Yang was momentarily at a loss for words, his mouth twitching. In the past, if he had called Si Nian annoying, she would have run home crying. But now, she seemed almost proud of it.
When did she become so thick-skinned?
Si Nian picked up Yaoyao, who was sitting nearby, clearly done with the conversation. "Since we're not that close, I won't bother entertaining you any longer. Please feel free to leave," she said, turning to go.
Fu Yang, who had always been the one women fawned over, was now faced with Si Nian's indifference, and his face darkened in displeasure. He grabbed her arm, his tone laced with anger. "Si Nian, don't be ungrateful!"
Si Nian, wearing her heeled shoes, was holding Yaoyao in her arms. With Fu Yang's sudden pull, her grip loosened. Her strength was no match for his, especially while carrying a bag, and Yaoyao nearly slipped from her arms. The bag fell to the ground with a loud thud.
The sudden jolt frightened Yaoyao. Although she was still small, she could sense the tension. Seeing Fu Yang's scowl, which looked as sour as could be, and feeling the near fall, she burst into tears, wailing loudly. The commotion quickly drew the attention of people outside.
Fu Yang was stunned, still processing what had just happened when suddenly, he felt a sharp pain in his nose and was sent flying backward. The hospital erupted into chaos.
Instead of receiving the good news they were hoping for, the Si family got a shocking update: Fu Yang had been urgently taken to the police station. The reason? Fu Yang had been caught bullying Si Nian and her daughter at the hospital, only to be discovered by Zhou Yueshen. The two men ended up in a fight, and both were taken away.
To be honest, the police didn't know how to handle the situation. On one side, there was the son of a high-ranking officer from the military compound, a major in the army. On the other, a former military hero and regiment commander, someone the top brass were fighting over. Neither of these men was someone they could easily manage, so they had no choice but to notify the families.
Of course, everyone knew this was Fu Yang's fault. After all, what was he thinking, bullying someone's wife and child? Zhou Yueshen was perfectly justified in protecting his family.
So, it served Fu Yang right.
When the news broke, not only the Fu family but even the Si family were left utterly stunned, frozen in shock. Even Si Nian was taken aback, completely bewildered. She hadn't even seen how it all started, yet the two men had already started brawling.
The scene was intense, with punches landing hard and fast. Si Nian was still a bit shaken, not having fully recovered from the shock. Before she could even say a word, Zhou Yueshen had already thrown a punch that sent Fu Yang flying.
And it wasn't like Fu Yang was some weakling—he might not be 190 cm tall, but he was over 185 cm, a big guy. Growing up in the military compound with Fu Shouzhang, he had picked up some serious combat skills. But now, here he was, beaten black and blue by Zhou Yueshen, with no chance to fight back.
It seemed that no matter how much of a protagonist Fu Yang was, there was no way he could stand a chance against a formidable "villain" like Zhou Yueshen.
Despite Fu Yang's terrible beating, the police still saw him as nothing more than a spoiled, rich kid who bullied a helpless wife and her daughter, just as Zhou Yueshen had described.
What could anyone say? Si Nian was simply too beautiful, and Fu Yang was at that impulsive age. Seeing such a stunning woman like Si Nian, his spoiled young master's instincts kicked in, and he couldn't resist trying to take advantage. But who would've thought that Si Nian's husband wouldn't be someone to mess with? Seeing his wife being mistreated, of course, he had to teach the guy a lesson.
Everyone around looked at Si Nian with a mix of envy and sympathy. Some even sent a female officer to comfort her, afraid she might be traumatized by the incident.
Si Nian: ... Completely bewildered.
When the Fu family arrived at the police station, they weren't unreasonable. Upon learning that it was their son who had started the trouble and even scared the child to tears, they saw Si Nian holding her little girl, her eyes swollen and looking pitiful, and they felt like they were the villains.
If word got out, the Fu family would be utterly disgraced. First, there was Lin Sisi, who stole the 3,000 yuan dowry and caused Si Nian to marry into the countryside. Now, there was Fu Yang bullying a widow and her child!
People who didn't know the situation might think the Fu family was abusing their power. What was supposed to be an attempt to smooth things over ended up making the situation worse. As the military compound's top leaders, Fu Yang's parents were both red-faced throughout the entire ordeal, trying to handle it as best as they could.
They expressed their willingness to compensate and hoped to keep the matter quiet. They even said Si Nian could make any request, and the police, seeing they were dealing with military leaders, gave them some leeway.
Fu Yang's mother handed Si Nian a large red envelope, her face full of guilt. "Nian Nian, I'm so sorry. We never thought Fu Yang would act so impulsively and hurt you and the child. I truly apologize. This is a little something from me—take it and buy something nice for the child. Consider it a small compensation. I hope you can remember how I treated you well in the past and not hold this against him."
Si Nian held the thick stack of money that had been thrust into her arms. Honestly, she wanted to refuse, but the amount was substantial. Fu Yang had indeed gone too far, and she was really angry. However, Zhou Yueshen had already given him a good lesson.
If possible, she didn't want to have any further dealings with the Fu family. No matter what, they were still people of power and influence.
