Violin music filled the halls of The SlugClub event while everybody was engaged in conversation I slipped between the neatly dressed people to make sure that everything was going as smoothly as humanly possible. The tower with sparking cider stood tall in the middle of the room, the candle right made reflections of each and every glass bounce around the room.
Everyone was seeming to have a splendid time, so I took a moment to smooth out my blue dress and to fix my lipstick. My peace and quiet was ruined by someone approaching me that I had hoped I would never have to see again. Professor Sutton was dressed nicely and had tamed his usual head of locks into a neat up-do.
"Miss Thorne, may I have a minute of your time" he cleared his voice nervously, I took a deep breath forgetting my inclination to say no but there were too many people around to cause a scene. I nodded and headed to a more secluded section of the venue.
"Miss Thorne, you must know that what you saw was absolutely inexcusable and that it will never happen again. It would be well within your rights to go to the headmaster but-"
"Professor Sutton, it's no business of mine what you do outside of class" I stated, yet I was brought out of my tracks when I saw Regulus. He was sipping lazily from one of the cider glasses while listening to one of his friends. I caught myself and added "You don't have to worry about me"
Regulus wore a perfectly tailored suit pants with a white shit and a emerald green vest that made his eyes stand out more. This man was dangerously handsome which made my blood boil way more then it should.
"Still you must know that I am terribly sorry for bringing you in such a delicate position" He reached for his glasses and shoved them up his nose "That was never my intention"
We were disrupted in our private talk when Professor Slughorn joined us. His cheeks were red as was his nose, indicating that he had drunken a few to many of the giggle water shots. At least he was having Fun
"Alexis Thorne" he hiccuped "A wonderful party, like always" he patted my shoulder lazily "Your talent for organization is very impressive my dear, I would not know what to do without you"
He spotted some faces in the crowd that made his eyes go wide "Oh Alexis I must introduce you to some of my SlugClub members" before I could answer he pulled me with him, grabbing my arm in the process. I inhaled sharply at the direct contact of skin but managed to remain calm mostly.
We came to a halt just next to the Cider pyramid which was still the show stopper of the evening.
"Alexis, this is Luke Haywood, a year seven Slytherin" he introduced me to a tall man with. Broad shoulders and chocolate brown hair "Luke, this is Alexis Thorne, a year Five Ravenclaw. She is the genius behind this stunning party"
Luke was about to say something but he was rudely interrupted. Regulus swung his arm around my waist, smirking as I glared at him.
"Alexis, I didn't know that you knew my friend Luke" his arm around my waist tightened.
"I don't" I hissed, trying to free myself from his grip without causing a scene "Professor Slughorn just introduced us"
"Well well how nice is that" Regulus let go of me and clapped Luke on the shoulder "Luke, did you know that Alexis is a muggleborn?"
"Which makes her achievements that much more impressive "Slughorn held up his glass in Salute
"Of course" Regulus narrowed his eyes. I suspected that he had a plan but alone the mischief in his eyes made me not want to know.
"I didn't know that you were so close to Professor Slughorn, Red" the nickname rolled of his tongue effortlessly "I always thought you preferred he company of Professor Sutton"
"I don't have any classes with Professor Sutton this year, Black" forcing a smile, yet any idiot could see that the tension between us grew thicker with each passing second. "But I did hear that your cousin Narcissa quite enjoys his class, so maybe I'll take it next year"
Regulus understood my warning, the grin on his face turned into a scowl. Now it was my turn to smirk. I had his balls in choke hold and he knew it.
"You seem parched, Red" his smile returned much faster then I would have liked "Perhaps I should fetch some refreshments" he reached for the hilt of two of the glasses in the pyramid. Before I could stop him he pulled forcefully.
Just like that the entire class construction went down. A rain of glass and cider sprayed over everyone in close proximity. While some people shrieked or screamed Regulus stayed completely still, sipping from one of the glasses. He held out the second Glass for me while the people around us fled from the shower of stick liquid.
His eyes held more smug triumph then I thought humanly possible
I snapped out of my trance and reached for my wand. Within second the glasses were whole once more, yet the liquid remained on the ground and to my resentment on many of the party guests as well. At least nobody had gotten hurt. I wished the liquid from my face but when I pulled my hands back I realized that I had been wrong. Someone had gotten hurt, that someone was me.
The red smear on my hand made my stomach churn in an uncomfortable way.
Suddenly a warm fabric brushed my cheek, wiping the blood from my skin. I snapped out of my thoughts when I noticed that the cloth had once belonged into Regulus chest pocket. I slapped his hand away.
If he wants war...
I'll give it to him
