Chapter 3: Live and Learn

Liam

This first bit of this chapter is about Mick telling them about Liam's weakness.

I woke up and I was next to Brody who was still asleep. I sighed. Today is the day Mick tells me the reason for my dizziness the other day. The thing is, I don't even know if I want to know. Soon Brody woke up and we headed to the base. When we got there everyone else was there was well. Mick did a few tests then I sat up.
"So?" Brody asked.
"I'm afraid it's not good news." Mick said and Brody squeezed my hand.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"It seems that you have to choose when you fight." He said.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"I thought this would be a thing where it would only be one fight a day turns out it is that but you also can't fight every fight." Mick said.
"What." I said.
"Some days your body will tell you when not to fight and that would be dizziness or you feel lightheaded that's when you need to tell us and then you can't fight." He said.
"No, there must be some mistake!" I said.
"Liam." Brody said.
"No Brody! Please no." I said and he just hugged me.
"I'm so sorry Liam, I wish there was something I could do." Mick said.
"I need some air." I said as I jumped up.
"Liam!" Brody said but I ignored him and ran outside.
"Brody I can't do this." I said.
"Yes you can." He said.
"But what if it gets worse?" I asked.
"Then we will deal with okay?" Brody said and pulled me into a hug.

It was the next day, I was slowly coming to terms with what I was told yesterday but it was still hard. We were forging ninja starts from Dane's throwing stars he made.
"Forging ninja stars from ninja steel is really heating up my circuits." Redbot said and Brody and I were by Mick as he was sharpening the star.
"This star is done let's hope the legends are true." Mick said as he threw the star into the prism. I then zoned out thinking about what I was told yesterday. My head was still a mess.
"Li?" Brody said tapping my shoulder.
"What?" I said.
"You zoned out." He said.
"Yeah I'm sorry I need to go." I said as I grabbed my jacket.
"Liam!" Brody said.
"I'm sorry I need time." I said as I walked out.

Brody
I watched as Liam ran out. He was really struggling with this. I then went with Mick to show the others the stars.
"Whoa." They all said.
"They're called element stars. Galvanax is sending more powerful monsters so you're going to need them." Mick said.
"Thanks Mick!" Preston said.
"Happy to help!" Mick said.
"My dad always said that a ninja is at one with their surroundings." I said as I handed them each one saying the elements as I did.
"Wow." Sarah said.
"The basic elements of nature are our weapons." I said.
"Let's give it a go." Calvin said.
"You can do it Calvin." I said. He then tried it but nothing happened.
"Uh it's not working." Calvin said of a sudden Clavin charged forwards and crashed.
"I'm okay." He said.
"So much for water mode so who wants to try fire mode?" I asked and turned round and they were all gone. They then came back.
"Hey where's Liam?" Hayley asked and I looked up.
"Uh he needs space." I said.
"Why?" Sarah asked and I sighed.
"He is struggling about what Mick said to him yesterday, he was so out of it before and no matter what I say I can't change it." I said.
"Brody you need to go and talk to him, you love him and he loves you." Sarah said.
"I know but I don't want to upset him." I said.
"Brody go." Hayley said and I nodded.

Liam
I found my parents grave. I just sat there in silence. I then heard footsteps.
"Liam?" Brody said as he sat down beside me.
"Hey." I said.
"I know you're struggling babe but you need to talk to me." He said.
"I'm useless Brody, I have to listen to my body when I fight I mean why?" I said.
"Hey, it will be okay we will get through this." He said.
"I'm sorry about this morning I just couldn't handle it." I said.
"And that's okay but we really need to get back to the base for our first day of school." He said and I nodded before we left.
