ELEVEN MONTHS have passed since the unfortunate events of last Autumn. Eleven months since Valentina woke up in a hospital bed to find her missing best friend. Eleven months since she'd spoken to any of her friends. Eleven months since Valentina had friends.
Carol Perkins was out of the picture. No surprise there. Turns out, the girl was as fake as the color of her hair.
Why the ginger decided to take in Valentina during her Freshman year of high school, nobody knew. But it happened, and the two seemed to be best friends ever since—along with the third member of their trio—until they weren't. Until they couldn't be.
Valentina Varner and Carol Perkins just weren't meant to be friends. It was that simple. They never got along, even while they were friends, or just tolerating each other. The two girls hardly had anything in common besides the fact that they were both pretty, which seemed to be the only reason Valentina could pinpoint as to why they became friends in the first place. It was also how she received her popularity. That one wasn't as hard to figure out. She was titled 'Hawkins's Hottie' for God's sake.
Valentina always thought that she had Carol to thank for her reputation at Hawkins High. But as less than a year passed without the redhead—or anyone for that matter—by her side, she was beginning to learn more and more about how people really viewed her. The student body, the townspeople, and people she used to call friends.
Tina Winslow was a sore subject for the girl. Ever since she'd returned from her week off school, it was like nothing changed. She was still as popular and loved as ever by the population of Hawkins-High. The same could not be said for Valentina.
Things changed for Tina and Valentina's friendship. Everything changed.
That day in the hospital, things were left very unclear and sore when Tina's white sneakers hurriedly scurried across the gray tiles and out of the room, leaving a very confused and helpless Valentina in her bed, where she stayed for weeks. The brunette hadn't even visited for more than ten minutes. They barely spoke at all.
VALENTINA'S EYES fluttered open and rested upon the astonishing sight of someone she thought she'd never see again. After a pitiful meeting, she was still thinking the same thing.
"Tina?"
The girl waited a long moment before responding, as if she didn't know how to respond to her own name. It had been about a week since she'd heard it.
"Hi."
Tears filled both of their eyes instantly, sniffles and giggles echoing in the quiet, dull room as the two reunited. It was like a double rainbow after a hurricane, fresh water in the middle of a desert; it was the greatest of unexpecteds.
