taylor sat on the edge of her daughter marjorie's bed, strumming her guitar softly. marjorie, now a teenager, had been going through a rough patch, feeling the weight of growing up and finding her place in the world.

"mom, do you ever feel like you're just... alone in everything?"marjorie asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

taylor smiled gently, her fingers never stopping their gentle dance across the strings. "oh, baby, i've felt that way so many times. but you know, there's a song i wrote that might help you understand."

she began to sing, her voice soft and soothing

"summer went away, still the yearning stays i play it cool with the best of them
i wait patiently, he's gonna notice me
it's okay, we're the best of friends..."

marjorie listened intently, the lyrics resonating deeply with her own feelings of longing and uncertainty.

"from sprinkler splashes to fireplace ashes i waited ages to see you there
i search the party of better bodies
just to learn that you never cared..."

taylor paused, looking at her daughter with a mix of pride and understanding. "you see, baby, there were times when i felt like i was on my own, too. but i learned that being on your own doesn't mean you're alone. it means you're strong enough to face the world and find your own path."

marjorie nodded, tears welling up in her eyes. "it's just hard, mom. i feel like i don't fit in anywhere."

taylor reached out, brushing a tear from her daughter's cheek. "i know it's hard, honey. but remember, you have a strength inside you that no one can take away. and no matter what, you're never truly alone. you have me, and you have yourself. and that's enough."

she continued singing, the words wrapping around them like a warm embrace

"everything you lose is a step you take
so make the friendship bracelets
take the moment and taste it
you've got no reason to be afraid..."

as the song came to an end, taylor hugged marjorie tightly. "you're on your own, kid. you always have been. but you've got this. and i'll always be here, cheering you on."

marjorie smiled. "thanks, mom."

taylor kissed her daughter's forehead. "i'll always be here and im so proud of you."
