tw: argument (not extremely bad)

———

travis walks in the kitchen, exhausted from a long practice, he sees taylor sitting on the couch but he doesn't say anything as he grabs a glass of water.

taylor runs up to travis "travvy!!" she opens her arms for a hug, but he turns away, "trav?" she says confused at his lack of response. travis takes a long sip of water, trying to shake off the exhaustion.

"i don't want to talk right now" he mumbles, avoiding her gaze as he leans against the counter.

taylor's smile falters, and she steps closer, her brow furrowing in concern. "did practice go that badly?"

he finally meets her eyes, the weariness clear in his expression. "taylor what part of i don't want to talk don't you understand?" he takes a deep breath trying to swallow his frustration.

her eyes glistened as she began speaking, "you never want to talk about it." tears ran down her cheeks.

travis ran a hand through his hair, frustration boiling over. "it's not easy for me to open up like it is for you, tay! you just... you pour your heart out, and it feels like i have to be some kind of perfect version of myself all the time."

"maybe because you never even try!" she shot back, anger flashing in her eyes. "i can't help you if you won't let me in. it's always a wall with you!"

"you think it's that simple?" he snapped, his voice thick with emotion. "you don't know what it's like to feel like you're drowning and have to pretend everything's fine!"

"so instead, you just shut me out completely? you think that's better?" her voice trembled with hurt. "i'm here, trav! i'm trying to be here for you!"

"maybe i don't want you here for me right now," he shot back, his words sharper than he intended.

her eyes widened, tears spilling down her cheeks. "what? how could you say that?"

"yeah, go ahead and cry! maybe you can write a song about how i'm such a horrible boyfriend, so your fans can feel sorry for you while you're at it."

"that's so unfair!" she said, her voice shaking. "i'm just trying to be here for you!"

travis leaned against the counter, his heart racing. "you don't get it, tay. it's not easy for me to trust anyone."

"so you just shut me out?" she shot back, her voice fierce. "do you really think that's the answer? you're pushing away the one person who wants to help!"

"it's not that simple!" he snapped, frustration boiling over. "i feel like i have to pretend everything's fine, and it's exhausting."

"but that's not fair to me!" she pleaded, tears spilling down her cheeks. "i'm here, trav! i want to support you, but you have to let me in."

he ran a hand through his hair, pacing the kitchen. "i just don't want to drag you down with me. you deserve better than this chaos."

"you're not dragging me down! if you keep pushing me away, you're going to lose me," she said, her voice shaking.

"i don't want to lose you, but it's hard to open up. it feels like i've built these walls for so long that i don't know how to break them down," he admitted, his voice softening.

"then let me help you with that. you don't have to go through this alone," she said gently, stepping closer.

he finally looked into her eyes, the weight of his fears starting to lift. "i'll try, but it's going to take time."

"that's okay. we'll figure it out together. just promise me you won't shut me out anymore," she urged, her expression filled with determination.

"okay," he said slowly, feeling a flicker of hope. "i promise. i'll work on it."

he took a deep breath and added, "i'm sorry for getting upset at you, tay. i didn't mean to take it out on you."

taylor nodded, a small, hopeful smile forming on her lips. "that's all i ask, trav. that's all i ask."

travis stepped forward, wrapping his arms around her in a tight hug. he kissed her gently on the forehead, feeling a sense of relief wash over him.
