THEIR EYES MET AND ALEX felt his smile widening as his eyes lit up in recognition.

"Evie," he muttered to himself.

He abandoned his drink and took two swift steps forwards, Evelyn doing the same. The two met in the middle and Alex engulfed her in a hug, hands around her waist, hers around his neck.

"I've fucking missed you," Alex muttered.

Evelyn laughed emotionally. "I've missed you too."

Neither of them pulled away, nor did they want to, as they felt that if they did, another decade or two would pass before they saw each other again.

Alex checked his watch. "As much as I would love to stand here hugging you all day to make up for sixteen years of nothing, I'm exhausted, it's very crowded in here now, and I'm sweating."

"You're a high-performance athlete and F1 driver, you should be used to all three. But please don't transfer your sweat onto me," she laughed, pulling away from the hug.

Alex stared at her for a second, still in disbelief. "Well, this reunion wasn't part of my plans for tonight," he admitted. "Not that I'm complaining."

"So, Alex, are you going to let us catch up with your long-lost love or keep her all to yourself?" A familiar voice that had clearly matured since childhood suddenly interrupted, the curly-haired driver appearing at Evelyn's side.

"I think I'm going to keep her to myself, thanks, Lando. Finders keepers," Alex replied.

Lando pretended to look disappointed. "Well, I tried. Guess I'll just have to settle for hanging out with Carlos and Daniel instead."
