"YOU'RE GOING OUT WITH ALEX and Lando tonight?" Sophie asked, gaze landing on her best friend's phone as it lit up with a text from the McLaren driver, who was ensuring she'd be there.

"Yeah, for dinner," Evelyn replied, looking over at her.

Another vibration rippled through her phone, and Sophie glanced at the notification again and laughed.

Evelyn raised her eyebrows. "What?"

Sophie shook her head. "I swear Lando's just there saying it yet neither of you see it."

"Who's not seeing what?"

"He always had the biggest crush on you when we were kids. You were so oblivious," Sophie sighed.

"Who?"

"Alex," she answered.

"No, he didn't," Evelyn replied firmly.

Sophie walked around the kitchen island and sat beside Evelyn on the sofa, turning to face her. "You could literally ask anyone and they'd say he did. Everyone knew. It was just you who didn't notice."

Evelyn shrugged. "Okay, fine. Maybe he did. But that was at least sixteen years ago, maybe even longer."

"You know what they say. You never truly get over your first love."

Evelyn shot Sophie a look that told her to shut up. "Anyway, who are you dating now? Still got a thing for Carlos?"

"Yeah. And unlike you, I'm not afraid to admit that I like him."

Sophie stood back up just as Evelyn leaned over to shove her. "Piss off."

"Hi," the waitress greeted, smiling at Alex as he and Evelyn stood in the shelter of the restaurant while it rained heavily outside. "Do you have a table booked?" She asked, holding the tablet with a list of reservations on.

"Yeah," Alex said, removing his coat. "A table for three under...Lando Norris?" He glanced at Evelyn for confirmation.

The waitress scrolled through the list and frowned. "I have a table for two booked under Lando, but not a three."

Alex and Evelyn shared a look, both of them rolling their eyes in sync. They followed the waitress to one of the two-seater tables at the back of the restaurant in a more secluded area of the building. Both of them knew that if paparazzi saw both of them together, just them and not Lando as well, then the media would have a field day.

When he sat down, Alex checked his phone, reading the screen before shoving it back in his pocket. "Lando's playing matchmaker again," he said.

"Raise your hand if you're surprised," Evelyn muttered under her breath as she reached for the menu.
