EVELYN AND SOPHIE WERE GREETED by the sights and sounds of the Monaco Grand Prix's paddock. Mechanics, engineers, and team personnel hurried about, preparing for the big day. Evelyn and Sophie exchanged glances, their smiles widening with each step closer to the Williams garage.
"Can you believe this?" Sophie asked, her voice barely audible over everyone else. "We're at the Monaco Grand Prix."
Evelyn laughed, about to reply, when they were greeted by a member of the Williams team, who escorted them to the garage. As they walked through the paddock, Evelyn caught glimpses of various drivers, some of whom she'd met the night prior, others she'd known since karting as a child.
In the Williams garage, Alex spotted them immediately. He broke into a broad smile and hurried over, his race suit partially unzipped, revealing his fireproofs beneath. "Evie! Sophie!" he called, catching Evelyn's attention while Sophie remained awestruck as she took in their surroundings.
"This is amazing," Sophie said, her eyes wide.
Alex grinned. "Come on, let me show you around."
He led them through the garage and Williams hospitality, introducing them to his team before sitting and chatting to them for the half hour left before he needed to get out onto the track.
Sophie and Evelyn were in the garage with the Williams team, Alex included, when Lando and George popped in to say hello, having heard that the two women had attended the race. "Look who got the VIP treatment," Lando teased, giving Evelyn and Sophie a playful wink.
George leaned in, his expression serious but his eyes twinkling. "Enjoy the race, ladies. It's going to be a good one because I'm going to win."
"Sure you will," Sophie muttered under her breath.
George shot her a look that very clearly told her to shut the fuck up, before the two drivers headed off to prepare themselves for the race.
As the lights went out and the race began, Sophie let out a loud shout of support for the two Ferrari drivers, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, while Evelyn kept her eyes trained on Alex's Williams.
The Monaco Grand Prix was always a special race despite how uneventful it could be. Nothing much happened after the four DNFs in the first lap, but considering the car he was in, Alex finishing ninth was definitely something to celebrate.
The garage erupted in cheers as Alex crossed the checkered flag, and Evelyn and Sophie joined in, despite Logan finishing outside of the points and Williams not being one of Sophie's teams.
After the race itself and the post-race interviews, Alex met them outside the garage, a thin sheen of sweat on his forehead. "So, what did you think?" he asked, his eyes shining.
"It was incredible," Evelyn said, throwing her arms around him in a celebratory hug. "I'm proud of you."
Sophie nodded in agreement, mentally celebrating the show of affection that Evelyn gave him. "Well, it's another thing I can add to the list of what I can tell my children. I went to the Monaco Grand Prix and saw the man who would be your father in person for the first time."
Evelyn laughed. "You need to get over this fantasy of yours," she said. "You aren't going to have Carlos's children."
Sophie shrugged. "I might."
