"are you busy this evening?"
wooyoung was only asking out of courtesy. of course san wouldn't be busy— after all, weekends were meant for relaxation, weren't they? especially for someone like choi san, whose carefree demeanour and penchant for spontaneous antics had convinced wooyoung that work rarely held him captive.
at least that's what wooyoung had thought.
"yes, actually," san's response was swift, almost clipped, his tone lacking the usual impishness.
wooyoung's brows furrowed imperceptibly. this wasn't the answer he had anticipated. for a moment, he just stared ahead, processing san's words.
all he needed was an outlet to let out his confusion, which is what he'd been focusing on, but... san was actually busy?! wooyoung perked up in his chair, slightly taken aback.
"you are...?" he drawled. "why?"
"what do you mean, why?" came san's reply. for some reason, he was hurrying through his words. was he actually busy?
"i'm a working member of society, and working members of society have no time to rest, even on the weekends. is my answer satisfying enough? i'm sure it is. goodbye!"
wooyoung let out a scoff of pure detestation as he stared at the phone screen, seconds after san hung up on him. working member of society, huh? the same working member of society who painstakingly curated a collection of the most ridiculous animal videos wooyoung had ever seen?
"he's busy?" wooyoung muttered to himself, shaking his head incredulously. he slammed the phone down on the desk, the sound echoing through the silent room. wooyoung's resentment from a few days prior surfaced as a result of being prevented by san from receiving responses to any of his questions. he crossed his arms over the table and lowered his head, silently screaming yet again. he appeared to have made a habit of it, thanks to choi san.
what work would a game developer have on a saturday?
for a while, it was wooyoung who was the flustered, embarrassed mess, but recently, san was also acting strangely. san appeared to be purposefully avoiding him ever since wooyoung told him that he had played his game.
wooyoung didn't know if he was overthinking things or not, but one thing was for sure; the man who'd showed up in wooyoung's personal space almost continuously for days on end had suddenly decided that he didn't want anything to do with him. the man who'd almost convinced wooyoung that he would throw all his responsibilities up to the air if it meant he could pull at wooyoung's leg once more, had suddenly fallen silent. wooyoung would be comforted by this, but he was in a situation where san's silence was the last thing he wanted.
"fine," he mumbled to himself, realising he'd spent too much time on his own problems for the day and it was time to get back to reality. "i guess i'll see you when i see you."
