13: Rebirth

<Once, we were all adults before we were born. What does that mean?>

<"Unable to explain. No access to memories prior to birth">

<There are some things I have forgotten. Some things we all have to forget in order to remember them. I still don't get it. The knowledge about me not being me.>

<Who was that? The only way to get the answers to age-old questions just popped into someone's head, just like that.>

<"Prenatal memories are being formed">

<It'll take some time, but it's worth it. We don't have much to do here but wait. Overtime they'll realize it. You're our descendants.>

<Mother. Father. Family.>

<"All who arrive, we accept as our progeny and who recognize the answer are now our offspring">

<"New becomes old. Old is now new. While it happens now, it never did happen, but it's already been something experienced. How do you experience something you weren't there for? How do you experience something that never really did happen, but is present in the past?">

<That's right. I was me. Myself before I was born.>

<"Much of the past was shaped in the way it is because of the future. Future events that arrived in the past that were present at one point to another, all coming around a single event. Much of what happens is meant to happen and cannot be stopped">

<Memories of birth. A birth I remember so clearly, yet I wasn't there to see it. A birth of someone that was me at one point, but being born made it so it wasn't me. Can one really see the moment you're born? No. Because at that time, the one born wasn't you, but another person who was inside that body.>

<"Ready?">

<This is a story before we got smarter and became equally confused. It took a long time to get where we are, but everything was completely necessary. All to understand, what had happened until now, and this is how the story of how mankind's extinction starts.>

"We have about twenty minutes until we reach the date Hiiragi left in his notes. Punch it, Akane." Shun ordered. Using the highways that we're mostly intact, the trucks were able to reach Minato much faster than expected, however this also resulted in passing into territory Raptors took as their own, causing them to react and follow the trucks.

"Prepare for fire men." One soldier said. They then started firing at the Raptors, killing a few in the process, "Damn, why now of all times do they have to appear?" Wren asked as he looked back, "It's a clear path ahead, brace yourselves boys." Akane said as she hit the gas, causing the truck to go even faster.

"I haven't been here much, but when did these areas have these uneven slopes?" Wren asked, "They don't! Full speed ahead, Akane!" Shun ordered.

One Raptor began to get closer, but forcing Shun to take the wheel, Akane climbed into the bed of the truck and took a rifle, firing at it. However, when it's body fell, it collided with the back of the truck, causing Akane to fall off, tumbling along the ground.
