His POV:
It was Yuvan's suggestion to drop the girls off before calling it a day.
"I am extremely sorry for this mess" Jasmine who was sitting behind in the car seat along with her friend, who was totally hammered, kept apologising.
On any other day I would actually snap back at her, ask her a million questions like in what mind did she decide to bring her friend to a date especially somebody who has never been to a place like this before, or how could she leave her there alone knowing that she is a fresher. But not today. As easy as it may have been to put the blame on her, I knew it was nothing she could do to control, either
"It's not your fault" I muttered looking at her from the rear view mirror while Yuvan drove us.
"We are dropping you off at your place" Yuvan said as he took a sharp left turn on the rarely empty streets of Marines. He always had all the information needed about anyone I was going to meet for more than 15 minutes, including the address, the background, their criminal history, their bank account details. Heck he might even know their favourite chocolates.
"Our place?" Jasmine sounded unsure, scared even. I turned my face halfway to look at her through my peripheral vision while Yuvan caught her attention from the rear view mirror.
"Is there a problem?" Yuvan asked. As soft as Yuvan may sound he has this hint of a little strictness in tone almost everytime when he is on his duties.
"Uh-" Jasmine sounded nervous. "None of our parents knew that we were going to hang out together. Worse Ruth's parents didn't even know she is supposed to hang out at all. They don't even know about me, or my existence."
What the work?
"Excuse me?" This was definitely going beyond me. I should have taken the hint of how stupid this entire thing is going to be.
"Long story short, I am supposed to be back home and Ruth is supposed to be back at her aunt's house. But I don't think she can be there this drunk and passed out" she spoke the latter half a little too softly that I almost missed it.
Almost
But in each word that she uttered, I was growing sick with this nonsense. If she couldn't drink, both physiologically and socially, why in the world did Ruth even agree to come to the club.
I eyed over to Yuvan, who just sighed and nodded in disbelief.
It wasn't until my phone rang that I realised how zoned out I was.
"Yes grandma" I spoke to the one at the other line of the phone.
"WHERE ARE YOU PEOPLE?" My granny spoke in caps. She sounded a little tensed.
"What's wrong?"
"Is the girl with you?" I don't know where she was going with this.
"Yea" was all I could manage.
"Her parents are trying to contact and they cannot reach her. In what world are you two up to? I want no nonsense before marriage" I swear the people around me cannot be serious right now.
"Where in hell is your phone?" I snapped at Jasmine not realising that the phone was still on. Yes. More than being rude to my date I was scared about upsetting my grandmother.
"This is no way you talk to her Agasthya" she said sternly from he other end of the line.
I was distracted by Jasmine fetching her bag and tossing things aside to get to the little device.
"Shit." She mumbled under her breath.
I turned to face her looking stressed while the sleepy head next to her was peacefully zoned out.
She would be terrible tomorrow morning.
"12 missed calls and 20 messages" Jasmine looked at me.
"We'll reach your place in next 15 minutes." Yuvan stated while still focusing on the drive.
"We need to drop her first?" Jasmine cried a little. No matter how shitty this night turned out she was still a good friend. I guess. I hope.
"Do you know where she stays?" Yuvan asked.
"This" Jasmine passed a business card. "This is her aunt's boutique address. Her apartment is in the same building. 10th floor. 1004."
I took the card.
"This is another half an hour drive from your place and that too in a completely different direction."
Jasmine just sighed in approval.
"We'll drop you off first and then we'll take care of her." I finally commented.
