That afternoon, Jayce sat in his study, nursing a glass of whiskey and staring at the paperwork strewn across his desk. The warm glow of the sun through the windows cast shadows on the walls, highlighting his furrowed brow and clenched jaw. The door creaked open, and he looked up to see Ivory's mom, Iris, stepping in, her expression stern. He sighed, setting his glass down with a soft clink.

"What do you want, Iris?" he grumbled. He wasn't exactly fond of Ivy's mom, in his opinion she was nothing but a gold digging hag. But he tolerated her... he had to.

Iris closed the door behind her, walking over to stand in front of his desk. She took a moment, surveying the room as if gathering her thoughts before she spoke. "We need to talk about Ivory."

Jayce raised an eyebrow, leaning back in his chair, a hint of irritation crossing his features. "What about her?"

"She's slipping away from you, Jayce," Iris said, her voice sharp and accusing. "I saw her the other day and these past few days she's been ignoring me or canceling plans and spending more and more time with that man, 'X'. And she's not even trying to hide it anymore."

Jayce's eyes darkened, his hands tightening into fists on the desk at the mention of Xaier. X put fear in his heart, especially around Ivy. Jayce didn't know if X knew about any of what he'd done to his mom, or how much he knew. And if he did know anything, Jayce wasn't sure if X was planning something or what. He already knew that X was a cold blooded killer, that was no secret considering he dabbled some in the business he was in. Xaier was skilled, and he always got away with what he'd done, Jayce just hoped he wasn't next on that list.

Not to mention he currently had his wife, Jayce wasn't stupid, he knew where Ivory was all this time. Today rolling into a week since she hadn't been spending her nights at home, but what was he supposed to do exactly? He knew he posed no threat to Xaier whatsoever, and not to mention, he didn't even know a thing about him. Every time he tried to find something, anything out, there was no record of it. The only thing he could find on X was a useless ass birth certificate.

Jayce attempted to seem unfazed though, although Iris could see his feathers were indeed ruffled a bit. "And what do you want me to do about it? She's my wife; she should know better."

Iris leaned forward, her green eyes piercing through him. "You need to start treating her better. Get back in her good graces. Make her feel wanted and cherished again. Right now, she's clearly just desperate for attention and love, and she's finding it elsewhere."

Jayce scoffed, crossing his arms over his chest, the anger simmering just beneath the surface. "And why should I be the one do that? She's the one cheating on me."

"Can you blame her? You cheat on her! And you beat her for any inconvenience!" Iris shot back, her voice rising in intensity. "The other day, I saw hickeys on her neck. She didn't even try to cover them up even after I pointed them out and she kicked me out for telling her her duties as a wife. I'm telling you, she's desperate. If you don't act fast, Jayce, she will be gone. Gone into another man's arms."
