Cσɳƚιɳυҽԃ...Sitting in the passenger seat of Jayce's car after their dinner, Ivory finally picked up her phone and her face scrunched as she looked at the overwhelming number of missed calls and messages from Xaier. Ivory's heart pounded as she opened the first one, her eyes quickly scanning the many upset texts.
Her hands slightly shook as she held her phone, trying to keep her composure, she started to read over every single one. She felt a knot of anxiety tightening in her chest, her mind racing with fear and concern for Xaier. Why was he acting like this? She glanced sideways at Jayce, who was focused on the road, seemingly oblivious to her inner turmoil.
Taking a deep breath, she tried to steady herself, forcing her voice to remain calm. "Jayce, can you turn down the radio a bit?" she asked, needing a quieter environment to process the barrage of messages.
He obliged without any question, the car falling into a tense silence. Ivory continued to read and reread Xaier's messages, especially the final one that was sent. She was starting to feel slightly fearful of what he might do in his distressed state, knowing he wasn't one to not put on a show. She knew she had to reach out to him, to somehow calm him down and explain that it wasn't what it looked like. But the weight of Jayce's presence beside her made it difficult to think clearly.
"Everything okay?" Jayce asked, glancing at her with a concerned expression.
"Yeah," she lied, her voice barely a whisper. "Just a lot on my mind."
As they drove through the darkened streets, Ivory felt the tension between her past and present lives pulling her in different directions. The fear of losing Xaier and the complicated love she still held for Jayce battled within her, leaving her feeling more conflicted and vulnerable than ever.
But overall, she still knew what she wanted, and it wasn't Jayce.
She held love for him still, and that was only because she'd been with him for so long. But no matter how many good memories he reminded her of, no matter how many times he did the same song and dance to try and make it up to her, it would never erase the overwhelming amount of bad things he'd done to her. Nor would it erase the fact that she undoubtedly managed to fall for another man in the midst of Jayce's wrongdoings.
To Ivy, she could clearly see that now that she was finally ready to move on, he was trying to amend things again. She knew that he probably suspected something with her disappearance and he was taking the nice approach now to manipulate her into being the good submissive wife again. It wasn't going to work.
Ivory took a deep, steadying breath and decided to push the issues to the back of her mind. She placed her phone down, deciding just to contact him once she got home.
'It couldn't be as urgent as his messages made it seem' she thought to herself, bouncing her knee a little. After all, Xaier had just told her he didn't have feelings for her and he wasn't going to leave Kesha alone. How could he possibly be this upset over one little outing with Jayce? One that meant nothing at that. He couldn't be that mad.
