Some changes from the first Iron Man movie were made for this fic.

-----

The last and final time. While it would truly solidify (more so than the previous two did) that he would never take garbage from anyone, this was the most disappointing revenge Peter would ever get. It wasn't even satisfactory. He only did it because he didn't want anyone to be deceived and didn't want Tony to suffer.

So many people were being lied to.

And the liar was Obadiah Stane, which Peter knew as the Iron Monger.

Peter still remembered when he first researched Tony Stark back when he was just a fan. After gaining the internship and getting close to his mentor, everything was explained in further detail to him. What went on behind the scenes, the lies, the suit, everything. That man really thought he could just use Tony Stark as a puppet for his benefit, or kill him off when he knew too much. It was disgusting.

Thankfully, he was taken down, but little did Tony know that despite the damage that was done to Stane, he didn't die. You see, even though they couldn't find his body, they assumed that maybe his body was destroyed as a result of the electricity from the overdrive, and perhaps the ashes got mixed into the dirt and debris. It was possible. But even after doing DNA testing and searching for anything that may have been leftover of Stane, they couldn't find anything. Thus, they just called it a day from there. So understandably, given that they got no results despite thorough searching, they never would have guessed that Obadiah Stane would still be alive. But they were open to the possibility, because would someone as egotistical and forward-thinking as him would let death take him? Certainly not.

So when he turned up on the news, alive, but certainly worse for wear, it only somewhat took the billionaire aback. He started thinking that maybe he should've done a further investigation at the time of looking for him when Peter walked in.

"Mr. Stark? Hey! There you are, I need a critique on this idea for my suit. I think it would be a good idea to... to... is that who I think it is?"

Tony turned to Peter.

"Oh, hey. Didn't realize you were there."

Tony then jerked his thumb at the screen.

"You know that guy?"

"Yeah. Anyone who is your fan knows him. He's the guy who died trying to impress Tony Stark and help with his business. You told me the real story though."

"Yeah. And unfortunately, he seems to have a smear campaign going on."

"What?!"

"Yeah, the thing is, I didn't want it to be revealed that he did all that stuff, not only for the sake of the company but also for the sake of his family and friends. I'm well aware of the stigma that comes with being the family member of a criminal - not that I could relate, just sympathize with - and I wanted to protect them from it. They would have been isolated, and treated like garbage, especially any possible young ones they likely might have had amongst them. I wasn't about to let them deal with the consequences of somebody else's actions."

"Wow, that's incredibly kind of you, Mr. Stark."

"Yeah. Unfortunately, it seems he couldn't care less that I did that for him and his family. He's using it to his advantage to take me down and make it seem like I'm using my kindness as a cover-up for 'terrible things I've done to him' or something."

The pair are then silent from there as they listen in on Stane in the interview.

"I cannot allow Stark to hide any of this any longer. I refuse. Everyone needs to know that he will be of absolutely no help upon suffering from a life-altering accident just as he had failed me."
