Tom never quite knew of what happened to Ophelia Laurent, his once favorite toy. After pinning his criminal activities against the Ministry on her, she was sent to trial and was deemed mentally unstable as well as charged with conspiracy against the Ministry of Magic.

His heart hurt a little, not because of Ophelia herself but because he now had to find himself a new toy to play with, and then break. 

Tom resigned from Hogwarts that same night, deeming the job as something that would bring him too many bad memories. The man who was the victim of a mad woman conjuring dark magic would obviously not want to be anywhere near the place she thrived in, which unfortunately was Hogwarts.

Sometimes, in his darkest hours when sleep cannot find him, Tom would think of whatever happened to Ophelia Laurent. He would even go as far as to wonder whether she would have been better off if he had just decided to kill her that night. 

And when he's truly feeling comedic, he would even find himself hoping she had decided to take the plunge herself, slit her throat, and put her out of her misery.

Abraxas Malfoy never mentioned her again after her sentence was announced, though Tom didn't believe he ever really liked his cousin anyway. Even after his loyal follower took his final breath due to dragon pox, he never mentioned her.

But alas, all mysteries do have an answer and Tom's was given to him many years later, in the year 1996.

Ophelia Laurent never found herself in Azkaban all those faithful years ago, and the mass breakout from Azkaban that same year confirmed it.

And now, the returned dark lord finds himself in distress with a Dumont heiress with wary allegiance, his followers disappointing him, and now his once cracked toy seems to have glued herself back together.

Ophelia Laurent had been destroyed and risen from her ruins, leaving Tom Riddle to pick up the pieces and wonder,

where was she now?
