Suspicious Acts

Chapter 10

I ran out of Shades door and onto the street.  I can not believe i just spent the night with i guy i barley even knew twenty four hours ago, i thought to my self.  I ran down the street my shirt trailing behind me when I heard thunder in the distance.  It echoed through my head and made me squint in pain.

"Damn Thunder!" I screamed at no one in particular.

I ran faster then i thought my legs could carry me trying to at least make it to a sheltered place before it started to poor down rain.  I mean you would think it would be easy to find at least a little place to wait out the storm in but no all there was was huge houses and garages.  I so was not going to break into one of them just to stay dry. 

A single drop of rain hit the end of my nose and the next thing I know I am drenched head from foot, running in the rain.  I closed my eyes and ran blindly for a minute or two because the rain water was stinging my open eyes.  Then i heard a car humming beside me and decided to open them up.  Idling beside me was a Black with electric blue racing strips down the hood, a Ford Mustang Shelbi.  I looked at it in amazement and wonder.  I had always wanted one of those cars but with my mother and father working two jobs and still barley supporting us I settled for a bike instead.  The tinted windows of the Mustang rolled down to reveal two familiar striking blue eyes.  Shade smirked at my expression before saying,

"I heard the thunder and knew it was going to rain so I got my car and went after you.  You run really fast you know? Now get ion the ar before you get sick."

I laughed at his motherly tone at the end and jumped into the Mustang.  The interior was black leather and the heater was on full blast warming up my numb body.  I shivered involuntarily and Shade pulled a blanket from the back seat and wrapped it around me.  I tugged it closer around me and let out a sigh of content.

"Shade, thanks for coming to get me but when we get to my house you can drop me off like a couple of minutes away."

Shade took his eyes off the road for a second to glance at me and frowned.

"First of all Anna, I am not letting you walk out in that poring rain for a couple of minutes.  Second I don't really know where your house is located."

I hit my forehead and made a "Duh"expression.  I told Shade the directions and in less then ten minutes we were sitting in front of my house.  My face was in the expression of "Oh crap why so soon"and "Here it comes" and Shades was in a......... I can't really describe it since he was not looking at my house but at me.  I slowly opened the door of the car and placed one foot out in the now lightly drizzling rain.  I looked back at Shade and smiled letting him know i really appreciated it and hopped out of the car.  I made it to my front door and was about to open it when i heard Shades car turn off.  I turned around to see him steeping out of his car and jogging slowly up to stand beside me on the door step. 

My house compared to Shades was looking like it was made for clowns.  I only had three bed room, one bath, kitchen, and a living room.  The walls were all either white or base and the carpet was torn up in some places.  I so did not want Shade to see it and plus my mom would flip out on me and him if she found out this was the boy i "Slept" with last night.  I turned to face Shade head on and said,

"Go back to your car. I don't think its such a good idea for you to meet my mom when your the one i spent the night with last night and scared her half to death."

Shade just shrugged his arms and reached for the door handle.  I beat him to it and opened the door and stepped inside.  I was about to close it on him when he stuck his foot in at the last second.  I growled in frustration and let him come inside. 

"Mom, I'm home!" I yelled.

My mom came rushing into the room and pulled me into a tight hug. I just stood there motionless not knowing what to do until she finally let go.  She held me out in front of her inspected me from top to bottom and then her face turned a bright, angry red.  Oh no this can't be good, I thought to myslef. 

"Annalisia! How could you do that to me? I was worried sick about you all night. I was wondering if you were in an accident and hurt and no one could help you.  And who was that boy that was on the phone when I called you? Did I hear him say good thing she does not know we slept together?"

At that moment Shade decided to step in and save the day.

"That was me, Ma'am. We did not do anything I promise. We literally slept with each other, nothing else, just sleep. I give you my word."

I was shocked at how formal he was and could not believe it was coming from Shade of all people.

"Anna, who is this young man? And is he telling the truth?"

I cleared my throat several times before I replyed to my mother.

"Mom, this is Shade. Yes, every thing he said was true mom. I just met the guy, why would i sleep with him? I mean yeah i was dru-" I cut myself off realizing about what i was about to say.

"Annalisia! Were you about to say drunk?!"

I looked away quickly an avoided her gaze.  Stupid, stupid, stupid me!

"Shade I think it is time for you to go now."

Shade nodded and turned for the door. Before he left he turned around and said,

"Call me, OK Anna?"

I just shook my head and waved good bye watching him walk out the door and hearing him start up his engine and leave.  I faced my mother and looked into her furious eyes.

"Annalisa, tomorrow you are going to get checked."

I looked at my mother questionably.

"Checked for what?"

"To see if you are telling the truth."

I cringed internally and externally. I can't believe my mother is going to check if i am still a virgin or not!
