The labyrinth stretched endlessly before us, the rhythmic echoes of our footsteps reverberating through the maze. Thomas and I walked side by side, our fingers brushing against the cold walls adorned with cryptic symbols that by now seemed to guide us through the corridor. The air was thick with anticipation, a fusion of the unknown and the unspoken tension that lingered between us. No one said a word until Thomas broke the silence, his voice a gentle murmur. "Y/N, about earlier... I didn't mean to push you away. It's just... this maze, it's unpredictable, and I can't help but worry about you."
I looked up at him, her eyes softening. "I know, Thomas. And I appreciate that you care. But we can't let this tear us apart. All of this fighting and arguing, can we just stop? We need each other in this."
He nodded, a weight lifting from his shoulders. "You're right. I just... I can't lose you in this maze. You're my only anchor in this chaos."
A small smile played on my lips. "We are each other's anchors, Thomas. We'll navigate this maze and everything else that may come our way together, no matter what. Are we good?", "We're good" a smile spread on his lips.
As we continued walking, the symbols seemed to shift and dance on the walls, their meanings elusive yet captivating. I, ever attuned to the maze's mysterious energies, felt a tingling sensation in my fingertips as I traced the symbols.
"That earlier, it wasn't a vision. It was a flashback," I confessed, my voice a hushed whisper. "It was like glimpses of the past and the future. It's as if the maze is showing me what once was and what could be."
Thomas looked at me intrigued. "Flasbacks? Like actual memories? But how can that be, none of us can remember anything from before the maze."
I closed my eyes, the memories and visions merging into a vivid tapestry. "Yes, I know yet I see a world scorched by the sun, plagued by a virus that turns people into something... monstrous. But I also see hope, a cure hidden within the maze, within us. Ava believed we held that cure, that we could save what's left of humanity. And I...I believe that too."
Thomas absorbed her words, listening carefully and his gaze lingering on the symbols. "So, the symbols could be the key to that cure, a way to unlock the secrets of this maze?" "I'm not sure but there are definitely here for a reason, don't you think? Thomas?" "Yes?" "Can we keep this between us for now? I don't know any more than this and I don't want the others to worry about something we might not even have to worry about." "Yeah, sure thing but you know we have to fill them eventually, right?" "Yes, I know but now is not the right time. Thank you for understanding." He smiled at me in a silent agreement.
Our footsteps echoed through the corridor; a rhythmic dance accompanied by the soft whispers of the group. Minho, trailing behind, observed our exchange with a watchful eye. His instincts told him there was more to this place than met the eye, and he couldn't shake the feeling of being watched.
As we walked, Minho's unease intensified. He slowed his pace, glancing over his shoulder as if expecting an unseen presence. The maze, ever mysterious, seemed to respond to their scrutiny.
I felt a subtle shift in the air. "Minho, is everything okay?" I called out sensing that something wasn't right.
Minho turned to face me, his expression guarded. "I don't know. Something feels off. Like we're not alone."
Thomas exchanged a glance with me, the unspoken acknowledgment of Minho's instincts resonating between us. Afterall, we knew very well, that he maze, a living enigma, concealed its secrets with each twist and turn.
We brushed it off and continued our journey, the symbols guiding us deeper into the labyrinth if that was even possible. The air grew colder, and the walls seemed to pulsate. My visions intensified, revealing glimpses of a world beyond the maze—a world on the brink of collapse, a city buring up in flames in desperate need for a cure.
As they reached a vast chamber adorned with towering walls of symbols, my breath got caught in my lungs. The visions merged with the reality before her, a convergence of past and potential future. The symbols seemed to come alive, their glow resonating with an ethereal energy.
Thomas, captivated by the spectacle, muttered, "This is it, Y/N." Thomas, Newt and Minho stood in silent awe, the weight of the maze's history unfolding around them. In the midst of the surreal ambiance, my hand brushed against Thomas's, fingers entwined.
Just as the sense of unity settled among us, a distant rumble echoed through the chamber. The symbols flickered, their glow dimming for a moment before intensifying with a renewed vigor.
A shiver ran down my spine, "No, we need to leave." "What do you mean we have to go, we just got here, and look at all of thi..." Newt started, "NO, we need to leave NOW!" I tried pulling at Thomas' arm but to no avail.
Minho, ever vigilant, scanned the shadows as if expecting the source of the disturbance. "Y/N there is nothing there," "No, I'm tellin you we have to get out here" "Or what do you think will happen?" "I... I... we need to go okay?", "We'll leave but in a moment, now that we are here I want to get a quick look around" "I don't like this, I'm telling you, we should really leave the sooner the better." " Yes yes I'll be quick, I promise" Minho continued to take a look around scouting out the surroundings while during so. "I have a bad feeling about this" I mummered under my breath more to myself than anyone else.
Little did we know, the shadows in the maze stirred with a subtle malevolence. Unseen eyes watched our every move as the metallic beasts within the walls prepared to test the our unity. The trial awaited, concealed within the darkest of shadows.
