The heavy rain fell in pulsing waves over the city as thunder rattled the air. Dorothy and I skulked through the streets, making our way toward Chet's. Jude was moving along the rooftops, guiding our path to avoid patrols. The rain obscured sight and sound enough that we could navigate without being easily spotted.

"Convoy to your left," Jude radioed over.

We made a sharp right into another alley and snaked around the streets. I made a futile attempt to wipe water off my face, only for it to be immediately replenished by the downpour. Before long, we were coming up on Chet's.

We snuck up the back and I tried to open the rear door.

"Shit," said Jude over the radio, still watching from a distance. "That door is blocked. Go through the front."

We began to circle around to the front of the shop. "Hold it," Jude said. Two military vehicles cruised by along the street. Once it was clear, we got inside.

"We're in," Dorothy radioed over as we shook off some of the excess water. "Rhodry, you're in position?"

"Affirmative," radioed Rhodry. "On standby with Sirrat. Just say the word."

"Judas?" said Dorothy.

"Taking position now," said Jude. Then, "Ready."

"We're in the tunnels—right underneath you," said Ramona. "Worst case scenario we can surface and lend a hand."

"Copy," said Dorothy. "Heading out." She released her radio and turned to me. "Wait here," she instructed. "You're my backup. I'm leaving my gun, so you're all I have. You know how to use that?" she motioned to the assault rifle I had been given.

"Yep," I said. "I've got you covered."

"Let's kill that rat," said Dorothy. With that, she set her assault rifle on a shelf, left the shop and dashed across the parking lot to the store. A few seconds later, she came back out with a bag of banana bread, taking a seat under the front awning and making a show of looking battered and defeated.

A passing patrol car immediately skrrted to a halt, and a soldier with unmarked armour jumped out and approached me.

She quickly recognized me and called it in, unholstering her pistol and aiming it at me. There was no response for a moment, but then Big City Mouse herself responded. "Hold her there, I'm on my way."

I glanced up at a nearby building, where I could just barely tell that Judas was perched with her rifle. I winked toward her, knowing she had her scope in my direction and wanting to signal that things were going as planned.

"Big City Mouse is on her way," Jude radioed through, having received Dorothy's signal.
