I burst into the back alley where Sirrat was waiting.

"Ned and Combine are both captured now too," I said. "We need to make this fast. They're being brought inside to be executed. Big City Mouse's forces know we're nearby."

Fear flashed across Sirrat's face. "Yes," he said. "Hop on. We'll plant several bombs to lure them out and then bust in through the roof."

I quickly mounted his nape and grabbed hold of his mane with my free hand. We waited quietly for a second as the sounds of jogging boots neared. Up ahead, a small group of soldiers dashed past the alley, totally missing us. I suppose they figured we were a little further away instead of right across the street. Sirrat then instructed me to throw the first bomb down right where we were. I armed it and dropped it to the pavement as he took off out of the alley. A few seconds later, it exploded behind us.

"You know something," I said as we flew along. "About Harambe's death."

"I think you do too."

We were forcefully dragged in through the doors of the Capitol behind Big City Mouse. Once inside, we were lined back up. No sooner did an explosion ring out from outside.

"What the hell was that?" Big City Mouse asked a nearby underling. They shrugged. "Have someone check it out,' Big City Mouse commanded. She then cleared her throat to get our attention. We all looked up.

I watched as your gaze immediately shifted from her towards the dais at the back of the room.

At the foot of the throne, Harambe's hulking corpse lay splayed out, a blank expression fixed on his face. His eyes were colourless and still.

And, unmistakably and perhaps most notably, he was lying in a pool of shimmering golden blood.

"But how?" I asked as the first bomb went off and I threw another. We had circled partway around the block. "I just can't make sense of the timeline. Unless... Harambe was killed before the storm." We passed over the heads of a few surprised soldiers.

"I will give you this dignity," Sirrat said. "He was killed before the storm. In fact, his death caused the storm."

"Mach," you pleaded quietly. "Mach."

Mach was averting his gaze, visibly shaking.

"Mach!" you yelled.
