Chapter One

Note: As no one gave any opinions to the questions I posted previously, I will be picking the answers myself. 

- Ness' pairing will be Takemura, I like the duality of Val and Nes being into different types of men, and being as individual as they are. With Val being a more free spirit and Ness being a straight-laced military woman. 

- Misty will be an Asari (Birth name Malezi T'Soni (She's Liara's older half-sister (though I was also tempted to make her Aria's daughter)))

- Other relationships for Val will include numerous flings with Dum Dum, Viktor (though there is history with them as well), Mitch, Tiny Mike, and maybe others that I feel like when I get to them. I can't remember every male side character right now, but there likely will be others.

Misty sets a tea tray next to Vanessa who glances at it and then up at Misty. Misty's eyes are red and puffy. She's been crying. Understandable. She and Viktor have lost a friend, Jackie is dead, and their other friend has been seriously injured, breaching death. Here, Vanessa has been thinking about herself. She hasn't seen her sister in four years and she thinks she has a monopoly on this.

"How long will you be staying, Ness?" Misty asks her as she pours out the drinks.

"I have been given a couple of weeks leave due to an unforeseen family emergency" Vanessa explains. "I was about to leave service on the Jakarta anyway so...." She shrugs a little. "Not how I was planning on spending my leave" She mumbles to herself and then sighs. "What was she thinking?" She complains. "Arasaka!" She pinches the bridge of her nose and then drops into the seat next to the bed. "Fuckin' Araska" Misty hands her a mug of tea but Vanessa sighs and looks at it. "No offence, Misty, but do you have anything stronger?" Misty nods to the tea and smiles at her.

"The tea will soothe your soul" Misty assures her. Vanessa sighs and takes the cup from her.

"Don't drink that" Viktor warns and gives Misty a look. "She's Alliance, they test her piss" Vanessa pulls a face at the tea and looks at Misty who shrugs innocently. Vanessa sets the cup down and then rests her elbows on her knees, her eyes on her sister whose very still. Even her breathing is barely noticeable and if it wasn't for the fact that she's hooked up to the Ripperdoc's computer which beats with her heartbeat, then she would honestly believe that she is dead.

"Thank you, Viktor" Vanessa whispers, not looking at the Ripperdoc. "Whatever the cost...I'll cover it"

"All those years ago when I first met the two of you, standing behind your mother's legs, I knew you'd be trouble" Viktor comments as he pulls the computer screen closer to him, looking over the diagnostic results from Valerie's biometric scans. "I didn't charge Asher for the biotic implants then, and I am not going to charge you for this now" He then glances over at Vanessa who goes to argue because this is not a couple of biotic implants. This is so much more than a couple of implants. "Val is my friend" Viktor stops her. "I'm not going to charge either of you to save her life" Vanessa lets out a breath and closes her eyes.

"Thank you" She repeats, her voice breaking. She leans forward and sets her forehead on Valerie's arm, curling her fingers around her wrist.

"Have you called your mother?" Viktor asks and Vanessa lets out a breath before she lifts her head.

"She won't come back to the city" Vanessa answers. "There's no point in telling her until I know Val's going to be okay" She closes her eyes and shakes her head. "Or not okay" She rubs the bridge of her nose and nods. "I'll call her in the morning" Viktor hums a little. They had called Vanessa first, because they knew that it was Val's plan. She'd made sure that the three of them, Viktor, Misty and Jackie knew the plan in case anything happened to her. And the plan was to call Vanessa first. Their mother, Hannah, can be rather unprepared when it comes to stuff like this. After Asher's death, it fell to the twins to be the stable ones who arranged everything because Hannah just stopped functioning. This would be worse for Hannah. Her daughter looking like this. Neither of the girls needs that right now. Viktor takes a seat across from Vanessa, his eyes shifting from the screen display to Vanessa and back again.

"Heard you got the L3 fitted" He voices and Vanessa hums.

"I had to" Vanessa admits and leans back in her seat. "My vanguard training required a stronger and more stable amp" She glances at Valerie and then leans closer to touch her arm. "Was she desperate for the credits? Is that why she took such a job?"

"You know she isn't a mercenary for the credits" Misty argues softly as she wanders around Viktor's workshop, cleaning up a little. Probably distracting herself from what happened. Between Jackie's death and Val's injuries. She lost her boyfriend, and near enough lost her best friend. She's going through this too. "She does it because it is fun, because she meets strange people and learns interesting things"

"Because of the tech" Vanessa counters, Misty hums and then nods in agreement, glancing over her shoulder to smile at Vanessa.

"Because of the tech," Misty agrees softly.

"Do you know what this one was about?" Vanessa asks her. They had been very light on the information when she'd arrived only that it had something to do with Arasaka and that was enough for Vanessa to know that it was a bad idea.

"Probably this" Viktor turns the screen towards Vanessa. "It's an experimental biochip. I've never seen anything like this before"

"Experimental tech would drive Val to being reckless" Vanessa voices and scoffs. It is probably the only thing that can draw Val into something so damn stupid. "Find out what you can," Vanessa asks of him and then takes a breath. "Please" Viktor nods.

"Of course" He assures her. Whilst he doesn't know Vanessa very well, he knows Valerie very well. Long before she arrived in Night City he had been the one to sell and install the biotic amps for the twins, and then after Val came to the city, she'd come to him for the rest of her hardware, updating what she already had and installing new stuff. He'd even join her, Misty and Jackie for Biotiball game nights. Valerie is his friend.

"You must be tired" Misty offers Vanessa who hums in agreement. She hasn't slept since she got the holo-call. Over 24 hours ago now. "I'm sure Val wouldn't mind you using her apartment.....I'll take you" Misty touches Vanessa's shoulder, encouraging her to take a break. Viktor will likely work better without Vanessa hovering too. Vanessa lets out a breath and stands, letting Misty lead her away from Valerie. "You should know that Takemura is also staying there whilst he recovers from his own injuries"

"Who is Takemura?" Vanessa asks her.

"He's the man who saved your sister," Misty tells her as she loops her arm with Vanessa's. "Almost died himself..." Vanessa lets out a breath and looks back at Valerie as Misty pulls her along. She doesn't really want to leave her, not when she looks like that. Not when she looks a second from death.
