The morning sun cast a warm glow over the city as Zara walked briskly to the café. The events of the engagement party still weighed heavily on her mind, but she was determined to focus on work and put the drama behind her.
The café was bustling with the usual morning crowd, and Zara slipped into her routine, greeting customers and taking orders. The familiar tasks provided a welcome distraction from her personal turmoil. She moved with practiced efficiency, her thoughts only momentarily drifting back to the previous night.
As she was refilling the pastry display, she heard the café door chime and looked up to see Aaron walking in. His presence immediately caused a ripple of tension to pass through her. He was dressed impeccably in a tailored suit, his expression hard and determined.
"Aaron, are you here to call me a bitch again?" Zara asked, with a sarcastic smile as she approached him.
"I'm sorry about that, we need to talk about the wedding arrangements," Aaron said curtly, glancing around the café with evident distaste.
"Here? Now?" Zara frowned, glancing at the customers who were starting to take notice of their conversation.
"Yes, here and now," Aaron said, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Zara sighed, trying to keep her frustration in check. "Fine, let's go."
Before Zara could lead him to one of the tables, the door chimed again, and Luca walked in, his usual easy smile fading as he saw Aaron. He hesitated for a moment, then continued inside, heading towards the counter.
Aaron's eyes narrowed as he spotted Luca.
"Aaro-" Zara tried to speak.
Without warning, he strode over, grabbed Luca by the collar, and shoved him against the wall. The entire café fell silent, the only sound the clattering of a dropped coffee cup.
"What the hell are you doing?" Luca sputtered, struggling against Aaron's grip.
"Stay away from Zara," Aaron hissed, his voice low and menacing. "I don't want to see you anywhere near her."
"Aaron, stop it!" Zara shouted, rushing over to intervene. She pushed against Aaron, trying to pry his hands off Luca. "Let him go!"
Aaron ignored her, his gaze locked on Luca. "Do you understand me? If I ever see you with her again, there will be trouble."
Luca met Aaron's stare, his expression defiant. "Typical. You think because your surname is Archer, you can do whatever you want to?"
Zara finally managed to get between them, forcing Aaron to release his grip. "Aaron, stop it right now!" she said, her voice trembling with a mix of anger and fear. "You're making a scene."
Aaron stepped back, his eyes still burning with anger. He looked at Zara, his expression softening slightly but still filled with tension. "I'm serious, Zara. This guy is bad news."
"You don't get to dictate who I can and can't see," Zara shot back, her frustration boiling over. "This is my life."
Aaron's jaw tightened, and he took a deep breath, trying to control his temper. "If I ever see you two together again, there will be consequences. You know what I'm capable of."
With that, he turned and stormed out of the café, leaving a stunned silence in his wake. The customers who had been watching quickly turned back to their coffee and conversations, pretending they hadn't witnessed the altercation.
Zara stood there, her heart pounding, as Luca straightened his shirt, his expression a mix of concern and anger.
"Are you okay?" he asked softly, stepping closer to her.
Zara nodded, though she felt anything but okay. "I'm sorry about that. He had no right to do that to you."
Luca gave her a reassuring smile. "It's not your fault. But you should be careful with him, Zara. He seems dangerous."
Zara sighed, running a hand through her hair. "He's just overprotective. I'll be fine."
Luca frowned but nodded, understanding the unspoken weight of her words. "Just promise me you'll be careful."
"I promise," Zara said, though she wasn't sure how she could keep that promise given the current situation.
The rest of the morning passed in a blur of activity, the tension from the confrontation lingering in the air. Zara did her best to focus on her work, but her mind kept drifting back to Aaron's threat and the look in his eyes. She knew she was treading on dangerous ground, and she couldn't shake the feeling that things were about to get much worse.
Later in the afternoon, Aaron returned to the café. Zara spotted him through the kitchen door window and immediately felt her stomach tighten. She took a deep breath and tried to calm herself as she walked out to meet him.
"What do you want now, Aaron?" Zara asked, crossing her arms as she approached him.
"We need to talk, Zara. About the wedding," Aaron said, his tone a bit softer than before.
Zara shook her head. "I'm not discussing anything with you until you apologize."
"Apologize? For what?" Aaron's eyes narrowed, his tone incredulous.
"For the way you treated me at our engagement party. For humiliating me in front of everyone," Zara shot back, her voice rising.
"I didn't do anything wrong," Aaron said, his tone defensive. "Eva showed up uninvited. I had nothing to do with it."
"Sure you didn't. But that isn't the point." Zara said, frustration evident in her voice. "You left me standing there alone, and then you acted like it was my fault."
"You're being unreasonable," Aaron muttered, running a hand through his hair.
"Unreasonable?" Zara's voice cracked with emotion. "You have no idea how much that hurt me. And now you come in here, causing a scene, and expect me to just go along with everything?"
Aaron's expression softened slightly. "Zara, I didn't mean to hurt you. But you need to understand, this is a business arrangement. Emotions can't get in the way."
Zara shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes. "You keep saying that, but you don't get it. I'm not just some pawn in your business deals. I'm a person with feelings."
Aaron took a step closer, his voice low and urgent. "I know that. But you need to stay away from Luca. He's bad news."
Zara's eyes flashed with anger. "Listen to what I'm saying! You can't control who I see. Luca is my friend, and you don't get to dictate my friendships."
"If you keep seeing him, there will be consequences," Aaron warned, his tone dark.
Zara glared at him, her voice trembling with fury. "You don't scare me, Aaron. But if you ever threaten my friends again, you'll regret it."
"Sure." Aaron replied.
Aaron's eyes narrowed. He turned and walked out of the café, leaving Zara standing there, her heart pounding with a mix of anger and fear.
As the door closed behind him, Zara took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart. She knew that things were far from over, but she was determined to stand her ground and not let Aaron control her life.
