Hello, my name is Melissa Reyes and I'm a Junior at Kaltech High In New York City. You may think this is one of your average love stories about an average girl, whos popular, has a boyfriend, and has a perfect life, right? Well, here the thing, it's not perfect. I'm not your average girl, well at least not anymore.

My story begins with me in school. I was almost done with the second semester and my birthday was just two weeks away. That also meant the school dance was near my birthday as well. My boyfriend, Steve, had asked me to the dance. Well, of course he would, he's my boyfriend, duh. Anyway, in school we were "the couple of the year." We were talked about a lot and most girls were all over him. That's just my school life, besides me getting honors every semester. At home it was my three year old brother, Jake , my mother, Sarah, and father, Henry.

They planned a party for me for a long time, but I haven't had a party since I was like 10. I really hate parties, that's why I wasn't really into them. My mom worked as a maid in one of the hotels in New York. My dad worked as a business man and I really didn't see him as much. He had told me a week ahead before planning my party, that he wasn't going to be able to attend because he was gonna be in Chicago for a meeting.

It was the usual "father did the best he could for his job" type of thing. I didnt mind because I wasn't really talkative with my father. My mother decided it would be best to cancel the party until my father came back from Chicago. I felt it was best since i hated the idea anyway.

On the day of my birthday, it was like an average day. I went to school, went to all my classes, finished with an A on a test, and then went to lunch, ate with Steven and then finished the day off with World History. At the end of the day, I went home and
walked with Steven, the usual routine.

"Step, step , step. "
The door was open.
I stepped slowly and looked at my surrounding.

"Baby, is everything okay?" Asked Steven.
"Babe, my parents never leave the door open, what if something happened?" I replied.
"It can't be Melissa,"
"Just wait here, I am going to check the house,"
"Baby, please be careful,"
" I will just relax, okay?"
I walked in as slow as possible. I opened the spring door.

"Creeeeek,"

It was rusty and needed oil. I walked into the green living room, with the white sofas, and all I was thinking about was my brother and my mom.

"Mom??"  I said a couple times before proceeding to the next room, which was the kitchen, then-
"SURPRISE!!!!!"

My Family and friends were all there to celebrate my birthday.

"Mom! Don't do that, you scared me by leaving the door open," I told my mom.

"Well, sugarplum what do you expect? It's suppose to be a surprise, remember ?" She replied.

I chuckled and hugged everyone.

"Baby were you surprised?" Steven said while walking into my house.

"Steven, you knew about this?"

"Of course I did, Melissa. I had to act as if I didn't know anything or else I would of ruined your surprise."

I chuckled and hugged him. He gave me a kiss and told me,
"I love you and happy birthday baby,"
I told him thank you and hugged him tighter.
The party went on and then time flied and it was time for everyone to go.

"Bye, thanks for coming." I said to everyone who walked out the door.

Then i went to the kitchen to care for Jake. I gave him some cake then cleaned him up, when I heard the back door open.

"Mom? You there?" I said.

She walked in from her room with a laundry basket.

"Sorry, what did u say sweetheart?" My mom stated.

"Wait, if your here, then who's at the back door?"

"Honey, go get your dad's gun from the closet,"
