The stars may shine bright... (But they'll never shine as brightly as you)

"Thanks for agreeing to come out here with me, Shun!" Lia smiled happily, setting her bags down at the top of the hill. "I was honestly getting worried I'd have to go here by myself when none of the others said they'd be able to join me."

Shun smiled back and laughed softly, "It was a little strange the others were all so busy." He mused, setting his bags down too.

Lia nodded, her blue curls blowing behind her in the late afternoon breeze. "Yeah, I definitely thought it was weird. They never mentioned being busy before!" She frowned then shook her head and laughed, "Oh well! It'll still be fun with the two of us... Maybe even more fun than it would be with the others."

The blonde felt a warm blush spread across his cheeks despite the cool breeze. "Hopefully." He said, reaching into one of the bags and pulling out a blanket. Lia quickly rushed over to help him spread the blanket on the ground beneath them and to weigh it down with their other bags.

Talking and laughing, they set up their small camp at the top of the hill, consisting of a beach tent, a blanket, two sleeping bags and last but definitely not least, Shun's telescope and Lia's camera. The pair smiled at each other, sitting down on their respective sleeping bags and admiring their little camp in the lowering sunlight.

"This is nice." Lia sighed happily, watching as the sunset dyed the skies in vibrant hues of oranges, yellows, pinks and violets. She snapped a picture of the sky on her camera then frowned as she looked at the result, it wasn't bad per-se, she just found her camera could never fully capture the beauty of the natural world as well as her eyes could. It never looked as vibrant, as awesome, as it did in reality.

"May I see?"

The girl looked back over at Shun who was looking at her camera, she nodded, handing it over to him almost ashamed of the fact that she hadn't managed to get the picture as good as it could be. It seemed ridiculous that she couldn't, she was planning to be a professional one day... She should be better at capturing photos of nature than this.

Shun was quiet as he looked at the photo, looking between it and the sky. "It's beautiful. I don't know how you took a photo that good so quickly." He complimented genuinely. Lia smiled at his words, feeling a blush of her own begin to appear on her face. Maybe she was a little too harsh on herself sometimes.

Then she looked away to rummage in her bag, "Thank you. But there's still a lot more to photograph later with the meteor shower tonight!" She announced, pulling two sandwiches wrapped in foil out of her bag and passing one to Shun. "Here, my mom made these for us and I'd say it's about time to eat." She laughed.

Shun nodded, checking his watch, "It is around seven thirty." He agreed, setting the camera down on the blanket between them and unwrapping his sandwiches.

They mostly ate in peaceful silence, listening to the sounds of the birds in the trees further down the hill and the bugs in the longer grass buzz. Once they'd finished, the sun was a lot further down and the moon was peeking out from the other side of the sky.

The pair sat there, quietly talking about whatever came to mind for a while while waiting for the night to properly dim into the inky blackness it had to be and for the stars to start showing up, glowing bright like diamonds glimmering on a black canvas.

Finally, ten minutes after they'd decided to prepare the camera and telescope, it started.

A bright streak of light through the sky.

Pink and green eyes widened in awe and hushed whispers filled the space between them as the camera shutter went off taking the first of many photos of the meteor shower.

Partway through, Shun took his eye away from the lens of his telescope, thinking he'd ask if Lia wanted to take a look at the sky through it, he turned to his friend beside him.

Lia's focus was entirely on the stars and the sight of them through the lens of her camera, the glow from the shooting stars reflected across her face as she smiled up at the sky.

Shun's breath caught in his throat, Lia was so...

"..Beautiful."

The words had quietly slipped out before he'd even gotten the chance to stop himself.

His blue haired friend looked over, "Sorry, did you say something Shun?" She asked, a little worried she'd missed him say something important where she'd been so focused on taking pictures of the sky and the meteor shower.

A light blush spread across Shun's face, "O-oh! Nothing important, just.." He trailed off momentarily, looking back up at the sky as the meteors left their trail across the sky and the moon glowed brightly, a spotlight illuminating the dark surrounding world. A thought came to his head, all that felt right to say in this moment was...

"Just... The moon is beautiful, isn't it?"

He knew Lia wouldn't know the meaning or hidden confession behind his words but... That didn't matter, he'd said it.

Lia smiled back at him, nodding in agreement. "It really is." Returning the sentiment fully.
