Vera loved dragons, well she loved looking at them. Much like her uncle Aemond, her dragon egg never hatched but unlike her uncle, she didn't care. Whenever her brothers and Aegon had to train with their dragons she always went with them. Emotional support for Aemond (And to learn about dragon's, but some things are important than others).
When Vera entered the Dragon pit for the second time that day she arrived later than the boys as her mother wished to have a talk with the young girl before she left. Vera could tell something was wrong, call it a gut feeling. She was walking into the dragon pit, as her brothers dragon, Vermax was eating a burnt goat meaning she missed Jace commanding his dragon (she was very glad she missed watching a goat get charcoaled)
She walked past her brothers and Aegon as she stood next to Aemond. She noticed the look on his face. Jealousy, Desire, Envy. She gently put her hand in his giving it a soft squeeze. Aemond looked at Vera softly, he was about to speak before Aegon interrupted.
"Aemond we have a surprise for you" Aegon taunted, Vera knew nothing good would come from this interaction. She just didn't know how bad it would be. How this interaction would have its consequences in the near future.
"What is it" Aemond asked as he moved his hand out of Vera's to grab her wrist a way of asking her not to leave and reassuring himself she was still there.
"Something special" Lucerys told his uncle before running ahead of the group.
"Luke!" Vera yelled as she watched her younger brother run deeper into the dragonpit. She shook her wrist out of Aemond's hand and went to run after her brother to make sure he was safe. Before she could get any closer an arm wrapped around her waist holding her in place.
"Well your one of the only one of us without a dragon" The boy holding Vera's waist spoke, the young girl sent Aegon a confused looked at his statement, he just shook his head before letting go of her once he knew she was safe.
"And we felt badly about it so we found you one" Aegon's hand found the Aemond's back and the other one he grabbed Vera's hand.
"A dragon" At that Vera looked up to the boy holding her hand with a questioning look who's only response was a smile. Aegon looked back to were Lucerys had run off too a smrik growing on his face.
"How?" Aemond asked skeptically looking at Vera for conformation about what was going on all the young girl could do was shrug having no clue what the boy had planned.
"The gods provide" Aegon told his younger brother, as he let go of his brother but still holding the girls hand. Vera then saw what they had planned and a part of her heart shrunk knowing it was to late to stop it, Lucerys walked up the ramp following him was a pig wearing fake dragon wings.
"Behold the pink dread!" The three boys yelled while laughing, Vera shoved Aegon off her as she watched Aemond's heart break, she couldn't believe it. She knew Aegon and her brothers liked to tease Aemond though she never liked it she never thought they would take it this far.
"Be sure to mount safely the first flight is always rough" Aegon whispered to Aemond before leaving the younger boy and girl. Vera softly grabbed Aemond's hand
"I'm sorry" She whispered, in her head it was her fault after all, her brother were involved. Vera was meant to make sure they behaved when their mother and father were busy, she was the oldest it was her responsibility to make sure of that. Aemond didn't hear her, but held Vera's hand tighter as he stared in to the deep taunting obis at the end of the ramp. He started walking towards the entrance of the ramp letting go of Vera's hand.
"Go check on your mother Vera I heard she gave birth to your new brother" The boy stated, words of hate whispered in his head about the legitimacy of Vera's brother's. Bastards.
"Are you sure Aemond I saw her earlier I can spend the day with you if you want?" Vera's voice sounded like an angel to the young boy. Yes stay, Aemond's heart wanted to yell, I need you to stay.
"No I'll be fine" Aemond cursed his mind as he heard the girl footsteps fade away. Why couldn't he just admit he wanted her to say. How hard is it to ask someone to stay with you when you need them.
Bastard. There was that word again. It whispered like a prayer in the boys head. His mother called Vera that all the time, he could never bring himself to dare mutter those words against the angel that had saved him countless times. Soon that would all change though.
Vera loved her aunt Helena, she loved hearing about her new bugs, about how many legs certain ones had, maybe that's why Alicent hated her slightly less than her siblings.
Helena loved having someone who cared about her bugs, sure, her mother would listen but she didn't care she usually ignore the girl only absentmindedly nodding along. But Vera, she listen she even caught bugs for her and gave them as gifts.
So Helena treasured the time she spent with the young girl as Helena knew that the time spent with Vera was coming to a close. That's how the group of them got here, Vera was sitting in front of Helena as she spoke about her bugs and Alicent sat next to her daughter.
"This one has 60 rings... and two pairs of legs on each." Helena spoke as the bug crawled over her hand. "That's 240" the young girl added as Vera nodded along.
"Yes, it is" Alicent told the girl slightly bored but still paying attention.
"It has eyes, though I don't believe it can see" Helena added
"And why do you think that?" the girls mother asked
"That's so cool" Vera whispered.
"It is above our understanding" Helena said softly.
"I suppose some things just are" Alicent added, while Vera got distracted by counting the legs on the bug just to make sure Helena investigation was correct. You see it was rather hard to count the creatures legs as it kept moving but Vera would do anything to prove her aunt right.
The doors slammed open and Aemond is pushed though the door, only this time when Vera sees him, he's covered in dust and dirt. Vera to the surprise of many, wasn't stupid she knew what he had done and why he had done it, but before she can comfort her best friend the queen interrupted.
"Princess Vera you can take your leave" Vera knew better to argue with the queen, she waved by to Helena with the promise of meeting up with her later and she gave Aemond a look that spoke many words. Then she quickly ran out the door to whatever the world had planned for her next.
As always Vera had found her self in the garden. The young girl has always loved flowers. This was because they were all different, and no one judge them for it, no two flowers were the same. Sure they may look it but the are little changes in the flowers, some that cant be seen.
The young girl sometimes dreamed of a world were the word bastard wasn't used as a insult, where her and her brothers could live the life they wanted to without insults being whispered for every breath they took.
