Echos of Silence

Taehyun stared blankly at the ceiling of his dorm room, the silence pressing down on him like a heavy weight. It had been weeks since the breakup, but the pain still felt as fresh as the day it happened. He hadn't been to class in days, his textbooks lying untouched at his desk starting to collect dust. His friends had stopped calling, with over 100 messages left unanswered asking if he was ok.

After a while of just laying there he picked up his phone, scrolling aimlessly through social media until he stumbled upon a video of Beomgyu's latest concert. Hesitating for a moment, he tapped on the video. Beomgyu's face filled the screen, his smile radiant as he performed under the bright lights. The crowd roared with excitement, and Beomgyu seemed to feed off their energy, looking happier than Taehyun had seen him in a long time. Seeing Beomgyu after a long time started to hurt Taehyun deeply.

A pang of sorrow hit Taehyun hard. Was he the reason Beomgyu had been unhappy? Had he been holding him back? The questions swirled in his mind, each one cutting deeper than the last. He turned off the stream and let his phone fall to the bed, feeling more alone than ever.

Taehyun's room was a mess, clothes strewn everywhere, and empty takeout containers piling up on his desk. He hadn't had the energy to clean or even to eat properly. His stomach growled, but the thought of food made him feel nauseous. He rolled over, burying his face in his pillow, trying to block out the world and thought of Beomgyu.

His mind drifted back to the happier times with Beomgyu—late-night phone calls, stolen moments between busy schedules, and the way Beomgyu's eyes would light up when he talked about his dreams. Those memories were now tainted with the bitterness of their last argument, the words they couldn't take back.

As the days passed, Taehyun's grades began to slip. He went from a straight A student to getting Ds and Fs. Professors sent emails expressing concern about him, but he couldn't bring himself to care not even if they mention his college graduation being at stake. His friends tried to reach out, but he pushed them away, not wanting to burden them with his pain. He felt like he was drowning, and there was no one to pull him to the surface.

One evening, as he lay in the darkness, Taehyun heard a knock on his bedroom door. He ignored it at first, hoping whoever it was would go away. But the knocking persisted. With a sigh, he finally pushed himself and managed to drag himself out of bed and open the door to find his best friend, Soobin, standing there with a worried expression.

"Hey are you doing okay? You don't look so good? Come here I brought you something." Soobin insisted while grabbing Taehyuns arm out into the small kitchen. Noticing the mess and Taehyuns tired expression he knew he wasn't in good shape. Soobin placed bags down on the table and navigated Taehyun to the table and sat him down. Inside the bags were food, specifically Taehyun's favorite foods. This immediately reminded him of the dinners he and Beomgyu would have. Soobin goes around Taehyuns room and helps clean around. But Instead of eating Taehyun just sits there, staring at the food. Soobin notices and get more worried.

"Taehyun, you need to eat," Soobin said gently, sitting down right next to him. "I know it's hard, but you can't keep doing this to yourself." He adds on after seeing how sick looking Taehyun has gotten.

Taehyun looked up, his eyes hollow and filled with unshed tears. "I just... I don't know how to move on, Soobin. Everything reminds me of him."

Soobin reached out, placing a comforting hand on Taehyun's. "I get it. But you have to take care of yourself first. Beomgyu wouldn't want to see you like this would he?"

Taehyun sighed, the weight of Soobin's words sinking in. He managed to pick up a piece of his favorite food, hesitating before taking a small bite. The simple act of eating felt monumental, a step towards healing.
