Zuriel barged into his father's chambers uncaring of what he would stumble on with a bottle of opened and half drunk wine hanging low in his hand. He spotted his father at his study table at the corner of the room.
“Father! Your Majesty!” He clamored, then ambled towards him with steps that were barely balanced on the ground.
“Have you lost your manners?” King Genghis barked with a murderous gaze, his mood turning sour when he got a puff of the foul breath of alcohol coming out of Zuriel’s mouth.
Zuriel chuckled as he paused in front of the table. “I've come to ask you a question after many many considerations, Father. Are you going to send me away?”
“Speak before I ask the guards to drag you to the dungeons to teach you a lesson!” He hated when one lost their senses to alcohol, it made them vulnerable and easy to attack but the eldest sons he had took it as if it was mere water.
Zuriel placed his hand on his chest and lamented. “Am I not equally your son? Why do you always favor Tyler and Yibo? I am much of a man as they are and I am just as fit for the throne as they are! Why do you always keep me aside?!”
The King tsked. Perhaps he should really call in the guards to beat the senses back into this one. “Keep you aside? I assumed you and Tyler are working hard to keep the throne for yourselves,”
Zuriel shook his head. “I don't feel like I'm part of it all. Tyler being the oldest has more chances of being the King but just as Wang Yibo who happens to be your favorite child and he's slowly gaining the favor of the people but where does that leave me? I'm just struck in the middle trying so hard to fit in and gain your approval! But no matter what I do, you don't notice me. Nobody ever notices me!”
“I believe I've noticed you plenty. You are just as greedy and selfish but your weakness is, you are trying hard to be what you're not. You are just existing in a state of constant fear and desperation of what Tyler would do, isn't that it?”
It was like a hard slap to the face. Zuriel gulped on nothing. “I'm not afraid of Tyler.” He just wanted the throne, why was that so hard? If Tyler could want it so bad, why couldn't he do the same?
King Genghis scoffed. “I know my children just as I know the back of my hand. The only reason you want the throne is because Tyler would kill for it, that's why you are trying hard to fit in.” He signed and rubbed his forehead. He was getting too old and tired of this. He continued. “Your intentions do not hide from me, Zuriel and I do not favor one of my children over the other. You are all equal before my eyes. Now the next time you barge into my chambers drunk, I will make sure you spend a month in the dungeons! Get out!”
Zuriel sneered. “Thank you father. You just made me realize what I really wanted and that's the throne. I will make you and everyone notice me,” with a laugh, he turned and walked out of his father's chamber.
King Genghis tsked. “Children!”

Jiyang arrived at his little cabin late at night, a small basket of fruit hanging on his arm. He lit up the candles and the dark living room instantly brightened but his eyes widened in shock when he found a man sitting on one of his little stools beside his little table with legs and arms.
“Finally. I assume you've abandoned your home.”
Jiyang immediately recognized the man. Song Zichen; Haoxuan’s mated omega. His breath hitched. Jiyang didn't recall offending the omega of nobel background, why did he take his time to visit him in his poor home and waited till late? “What are you doing here? What do you want?”
