Emily's POV.
Crash.
He instinctively turns around, and the next second, he suddenly collapses.
I smile at Hunter, who then looks at my thighs, his pupils widening in shock.
" A lot of blood?" I ask softly. I look down, my belly is too big for me to see anything.
The blood soon reaches my ankles, flowing onto the floor, now I can see it.
Hunter picks me up and runs outside, muttering, "Damn..."
My belly hurts badly, but Hunter seems more nervous than I am. So, while he's driving, I bite my lip, not letting myself make a sound from the pain.
My nerves get tighter and tighter, and I'm very afraid the baby will die.
Then what? Then my memory gets a bit fuzzy.
The car stops at the hospital entrance, with a stretcher waiting outside. Several medical staff lift me onto the stretcher, I feel a jolt, and my belly hurts intensely.
I don't even have time to scream, the pain almost makes me lose consciousness, a bloody metallic taste in my mouth, and something else... Hunter calling my name, the sound of the stretcher wheels, and the "make way" up ahead...
My belly feels like it's about to explode, my whole body's blood vessels are connected, all enveloped in this pain.
I can no longer hear my weak cries of pain.
It's too noisy around me.
I actually doubt this is all real, just a hallucination; Cayden didn't find me, didn't rape me, I'm just having a nightmare from a leg cramp.
This should be a nightmare, just a nightmare crafted by Cayden.
Cayden once brought me pain, manipulated me like a puppet, but I had already hidden away.
My consciousness drifts far away, the pain in my body lessening, and I feel numb and detached.
I don't know how long it took, I seem to smell something. The aroma of food, the smell of milk, and the alcohol scent of disinfectant. Then I hear some sounds: talking, a baby's crying... I open my eyes.
White ceiling, blue curtain on one side. Above my head is a clear IV drip.
The sounds are coming from beyond the curtain, this is a double ward.
Through the gap between the curtain and the wall, I see the woman in the next bed sitting on the pillow, with the baby in her arms crying loudly.
"Hush, hush... Let Mommy rest for a bit, okay? You've already had your milk, let Daddy rock you to sleep." A man comes over and carefully takes the baby from the woman.
"Don't cry, don't cry... Daddy is here..." he whispers softly.
Where is my baby?
I gently lift my head to look at my belly, which is now flat.
I pull back the covers and try to sit up, but a sudden, intense pain in my abdomen forces me back onto the bed. I gasp.
"You're awake?" Hunter appears suddenly from behind the curtain, striding over quickly. "You've been unconscious for two days due to severe blood loss. You can't move right now, you need to rest."
He lowers his head to check if the IV needle in my arm is still in place.
The baby on the neighboring bed continues to cry.
