Cayden's POV.

"A plan?" Emily furrows her brows slightly.

"Actually, I saw her at the film base entrance the day I brought you coffee," I pause, deciding to reveal everything. "Sophia wants to get back together with me."

"She must have found out that I am... pursuing you. So, she joined your crew for free, let her boyfriend Lucas stay in the same hotel room with you. You know, reputation is very important for a star. This way, she can take the high ground in public opinion."

After I brought Emily home last night, I looked for the hotel manager who upgraded Emily's suite according to her explanation, but the hotel claimed they never called Emily.

The clue stops here.

Emily widens her eyes, looking at me for a long time before suddenly blurting out, "Why does she want to get back together with you?"

"Huh?"

"Why does she want to get back together with you?" Emily looks at me sympathetically as if afraid I'll get hurt. She purses her lips but still says, "You have nothing now: no job, no money, and you're even staying at my place."

My temples suddenly start to throb.

"Maybe... she likes my face?" After a few seconds of blankness, my mouth blurts out this answer.

Emily rolls her eyes.

Fortunately, she doesn't dwell on this question.

Because Natalie suddenly starts talking—Natalie wobbles over to the sofa, hugging Emily's leg. And she says not just a word, but a sentence: "Mommy, I love you."

This is the first complete sentence she's ever said. Probably because I always say those three words to her at home, so she naturally says it to Emily.

"Sweetie, I love you too."

Emily's eyes turn red. She picks Natalie up, takes a deep breath, then turns to me, "Should we try to contact Lucas?"

"That's an option." I pause, "But they might be in this together."

Lucas is also an actor. Sophia's tactics will surely have a negative impact on him in public opinion. And so far, Lucas hasn't posted anything on his social accounts, which suggests they've reached some kind of private agreement.

"No, he doesn't know," Emily says. "His reaction yesterday was too natural, not like... not like acting. I believe he was also set up by Sophia—Sophia wants to kill two birds with one stone, ruining my reputation while breaking up as a victim. Lucas must be under a lot of pressure right now, not knowing how to explain. So, I want to contact him. I'll clarify from my side, and he'll clarify from his side..."

"That will only make things worse," I shake my head. "If you two clarify together, Sophia's fans will definitely say you two were having an affair. Otherwise, why would you release statements together?"

There are too many conspiracy theories in this world.

Emily's shoulders slump. She hooks Natalie's hand, and they start making a pinky promise.

"Actually... we have another way," I say.

"Huh?" Emily looks up sharply.

I swallow and point to Natalie. "Didn't some people online accuse you of seducing your boss and having a child out of wedlock while working? I can get Boyd Group to pull up your employment dates, and Natalie's birth date was two years after you left."

Emily's eyes light up for a moment but then dim again, "But that still doesn't prove I didn't interfere with Sophia's relationship."

I look at her, gently holding her slightly cool hand, "If you're willing to go public with me online, I can be the proof."
