Emily's POV.
In November, it rains almost every day in London. Dark clouds press down on the buildings. I close the window, but the dampness still seeps in, making the interior feel like a dark rainforest.
I stand in the kitchen cooking. I am nearly nine months pregnant, my belly is ballooning bigger every day. My vision is blocked when I cut vegetables. I take a step back and push the cutting board further away.
I put the chopped broccoli and carrots into the already boiling pot. The sounds of cooking mix with the background noise from the TV.
It's nearly Christmas, and the TV is reporting on holiday celebrations. Oxford Street is already adorned with star-shaped lights, while Regent Street, lined with luxury stores, is covered in winged goddess lights. There's also the Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Trafalgar Square, where the tree is 25 meters tall.
I'm thinking I might be at home waiting for the birth of my baby this Christmas and won't be able to go out to see the beautiful night scenes. Then, I hear another news report.
A new Hollywood movie is about to be released on Christmas. It's a romantic comedy about a heartbroken British woman who wants a change of scenery to heal herself and ends up having a series of comedic adventures while traveling in the US. The host asks the director if he encountered any difficulties while filming, especially since the lead actress he chose is a complete newcomer with no acting experience, and if her presence affected the crew's progress.
The director answers, "I have great confidence in Sophia. Though she started as a beauty queen, she has a natural command in front of the camera and often surprises me."
The food is ready. I serve it on a plate.
The TV now broadcasts the voice of the lead actress, "I am very grateful to the director for choosing me and supporting me. It takes courage to venture into an unfamiliar field, but the creative atmosphere of our crew has been wonderful, and they've constantly helped me improve. Now, my only wish is for the movie to be a box office hit."
The host asks, "We saw in the behind-the-scenes footage that you and the male lead had a lot of intimate interactions, so fans are curious, is this just a work atmosphere or..."
Laughter fills the scene.
The actress also smiles, "If you buy a movie ticket this Christmas, I'll tell you about our relationship off-screen."
Official and ambiguous.
I carry the plate to the dining table, holding onto the table edge with one hand and slowly sitting down. The late stages of pregnancy are really tough; the combined weight of the amniotic fluid and the baby constantly pulls my spine forward.
The interview continues. Among the flashing cameras and friendly questions, an untimely voice suddenly interjects, "Miss Sophia, after winning the beauty pageant in the UK, it is said you dated Mr. Cayden, the heir to the Boyd Group. Now that the film will release simultaneously in the UK, has Mr. Cayden sent you a congratulatory message?"
Clang.
The fork in my hand suddenly drops to the table.
Actually, this isn't all that surprising. Sophia and Cayden started dating when I was still an assistant at Boyd.
I pick up the fork and look up to see the beautiful face on the TV screen filled with shock.
The interview suddenly cuts off, and the atmosphere turns cold. But the next second, the male lead steps in front of the female lead, wraps his arm around her, and says with a smile, "This has nothing to do with the movie, and she doesn't want to answer. Of course, if you're curious, you can ask me. I'd be happy to give you a list of all the girls I've liked since childhood."
